"The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Nevada is down to a handful of finalists, including Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin"

"Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin on Tuesday confirmed he interviewed for the open Nevada job. When asked to expand on that, per Spokane sportswriter Jim Turner, Baldwin said, “Richmond. Next question.”

They're fighting rumors, but at least their coach is actually being considered for FBS jobs. Not for a lateral move to a conference rival. It's not like he's moving to Montana State or anything.

the big difference to me is that this guy has actually interviewed for the job, which means he got permission from the school. am sure that DR's agent has spoken, maybe negotiated with other schools, though no formal interview has taken place and that DR has told all, not until after our season will i actually sit down with you and consider any offer(s)

I agree, Spinner. That is a huge difference. Also, it seems to be tacitly accepted by the players as per the EWU message board and the posted interview by the coach that he will likely be leaving. That said, his leaving, though not actually confirmed, does not appear as much of a factor in his or his players approach to the game with us. Plus, it is reported by a few sources that the Pres. of Delaware is still interviewing candidates, yet it appeared to be stated with almost certainty both on this board and on the GoHens board that the job was offered and accepted by Rocco at least two weeks ago. Why would interviews continue if that were so? The only logical conclusion is that it was mere speculation or wishful thinking.

I am of the opinion that there is vastly more untrue speculation across the board on this board and elsewhere as to what Coach Rocco will decide than there is any basis even close to being based on verifiable fact or credible evidence.

It is jus speculation and I need to find a way to register for the UD board so I can go off on all of their idiot fans who believe that they have a better program and stole our coach.

Just my opinion, but I believe that Coach Rocco is a man that focuses on the job at hand with laser like precision. That he would have interviewed and accepted the Delaware job two weeks ago does not make any sense at all and I don't believe that it is true. He may have said (through his agent) that he wold be willing to talk after the season was over and that comment was blown up by their fan base. If you listen to him talk, it is all about his team, his kids, his program and extending the season. If he was already gone, I don't think we would be hearing what we are hearing. My two cents.

Apparently Nevada has announced they have hired an Oregon State assistant to be there head coach. Beau is off the table at least for that job.

am not confident that we will retain DR, nor that we will lose him, he will have some options and it really depends on how he feels professionally and what his family wants. this will all take place when our season ends and pretty quickly. if he goes to a caa program, will be completely embarrassed, if to a fbs program, will wish him the best and will always pull for him. he runs a program with class and always shows respect for our opponents' coach and program, i like that.

Rocco has been a class act from the very beginning of his tenure here. Hopefully, this is not the end, and hopefully our UR administration has made a full-fledged effort to retain him and support him. If that is not the case, then our administration should have some answering to do to our donors, many of whom feel very strongly that Rocco, and his staff, should be shown some "love."

It will be interesting to see what happens here. Hopefully our administration cares a little bit about our donors and our fan-base, and is not just focused on their own personal agenda. If they are not focused in the correct directions, then the board of directors may need to do some "succession/replacement" planning, and I am talking about some house-cleaning. The President and AD are here to serve the donors as much so as any other constituency, so being open to their wants is a very high priority. I really hope that the speculation is off-base, but would expect some kind of "vote of confidence" or "updated contract" from the President and AD, or some vocal statement from DR that "I am committed, by this new contract to stay at UR for another 5 years." Since we have not heard any of the above, sometimes the silence speaks louder than words. .

Looks like Nevada hired a 31 year old assistant from within.

Arizona State wide receivers coach Jay Norvell will be the next head coach at Nevada, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

CoachingSearch first reported earlier this week that Norvell was talking with Nevada. It’s the first head coaching job for Norvell, who just finished his first season on the ASU staff.

Norvell’s Wednesday interview was the school’s third this week, following Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin and Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig.

EWU and Baldwin announce 5 year extension.

It must be nice having money like Directional Washington.

I think he is mocking the fact that our admin says our $2 billion endowment isn't enough to pay a coach...

No no no, I don't know enough about UR to mock anything.

I was laughing at the idea that EWU athletics has money. Our coaching gig doesn't pay the best by any standards.

Not that you were mocking, Moliva was mocking our situation in comparison to yours.

FYI WITH a $44,000 annual raise his salary is $212,00.
Heck if DR goes let's get this guy he is a very successful coach

I recently read about a story about how little funds the eastern Washington program had for football. Long bus rides and local fund raisers so they could travel etc
Let's be grateful for what we have at Richmond despite the recent issues
I'll try to find article and post it , it was very interesting

Gill has his email set on auto-reply, so he doesn't have to worry about mind-numbing copy/paste responses while he's traveling and speaking.

What makes even having this issue, disgusting is we have the resources, it's an administration who's going to squander it on their own 'politically correct' agenda. It's like a spoiled child who inherited a fortune and decides his job is to enjoy it. Crutcher's job is to move the university to greater achievement in every aspect. In fact how is he doing with his primary function.....raising money? To too many of these elites, working to raise money is goshe but they love spending money somebody else earned.

which most any business man or employee does when traveling. does not mean they are not monitoring their emails, just lets people know they are out of office as a courtesy. let's not completely destroy our UR people, particularly when we don't know jack, just speculation and rumors.

I totally agree this is all speculation. It does seem to fit with academia in general, and we certainly don't have any information to make a determination. Today I get a mailing 'Calling all Spiders' request for donation, it claims tuition only covers 60% of the cost?? Sounds like the University cost to much if you can't live off $50k+ From faculty members in the past, the consistent message they gave me about their peers was about how entitled and unrealistic they financial perspectives are. I can be all wrong about this situation, but I don't think things have changed that much. Frankly, I'd rather have a person with a business background run the University.

I believe that he already is (see name on new business school, admissions building, etc.)

Wow. It was just a joke.

his family and his income -- most schools at our level face the same issues. If you make a good choice, get a successful coach, someone else is willing to pay more to get him. Coaching is such a uncertain profession the good ones have to do what is needed for their best interest. I don't blame them, that's why I would always want to stay within the same system, ie coaches that believe in the same system

yep, all of us have been through a lot but the same with most all schools, few exceptions. one has to understand the deal and learn to live with it, which does not mean we can't bitch and moan and throw stones when it is our coach. will never be angry with a person who makes his and his family's future brighter, just depart with class and not with a bomb.
