I would love to see a statue near RC of Doyle setting to shoot a RT and Gilly in defensive stance. Two
national records tied to our programs.
Please no more statues. Basketball will surely be offensive in the near future. Let’s stick with banners.

RIP Packer…the highlight of our game today was the clip CBS played in memory of Packer which highlighted him talking about Dick Tarrant and the Sweet 16 1988 Spiders

For any kid growing up in rural Virginia in the 60’s there was only one college basketball game a week. The ACC on Saturday afternoon. Packer was the color guy and Jim Thacker did the play by play. I think Castleman D. Chesley produced the games and Pilot Insurance was the primary sponsor.

Packer, Thacker and the basketball were so good and popular that by the latter part of the 60s two games started showing up on Saturday’s, and even a few week night games.

Back then we would have never dreamed that you’d be able to see every Spiders game live on TV, or streaming services.

Packer helped start it all. Thanks Billy!

Go Spiders!
