He and Jim Thacker were the best pairing of college BB announcers in that era. Jefferson-Pilot broadcasts were a staple of my UR experience. Watched the 1974 Maryland-NC State ACC final at the Pika house, one of the greatest games ever and I believe they were on the call.

The streak became Ginny Doyle's constant companion. It went to meals with her.

Did Doyle or Gilly own, sell or buy other human beings to be used for hard labor, or take up arms against the United States? If not, I think their statues would be OK.

For any kid growing up in rural Virginia in the 60’s there was only one college basketball game a week. The ACC on Saturday afternoon. Packer was the color guy and Jim Thacker did the play by play. I think Castleman D. Chesley produced the games and Pilot Insurance was the primary sponsor.
Packer, Thacker and the basketball were so good and popular that by the latter part of the 60s two games started showing up on Saturday’s, and even a few week night games.
Back then we would have never dreamed that you’d be able to see every Spiders game live on TV, or streaming services.
Packer helped start it all. Thanks Billy!
