this no call at the end of yesterday's loss is "water over the dam" but lots of Spiders fans were disgusted that no call was made on the pass from Cayo to Burton...

the video is interesting...first I run it at real time...then in slow motion...and then 7 freeze frames when Burton is attempting to catch the pass...

you can judge for yourself whether, or not, it was a foul...whether it was, or not, game officials are very hesitant to make a call on a play like this...I've watched the end of thousands of games in the last 60 years...it's rare to get a call and if one is made it's usually made for a Coach with the status and reputation of a Coach K, Dean Smith, John Thompson and a few others...

don't get me wrong, I agree with "kneepad" from another thread, we didn't lose this game due to the officials...we lost it because we couldn't make enough shots in the second half...we shot ,25% from the field and I think only made one three in the half!

Go Spiders!

can't tell if defender even touched him. No call every time there.

Mojo, I've been to the JFK Dealey Plaza Museum in Dallas (great museum btw), can I find any of your work there?

happened close to my seats, sure looked to me in real time defender grabbed his arm, even so much as to twist TB

When they were both jumping up going after the ball maybe there was some incidental contact but from the time Burton had brought the ball down and was going back up for a shot there was no contact at all. Not to mention the guy who had managed to score 3 whole points all game was not likely to hit a forty foot miracle where he wasn't even facing the damn basket with 1 second to go.

Odds of getting a foul called in that situation are low unless its very obvious. It was probably a foul, but I have no problem with the no call. I do have an issue with the poor offensive game, getting blasted on the boards again, and the defense when it really mattered on the inbounds. We put a 5'8" point guard on the ball and didn't switch off the screen. How so?

That's another good point, they just don't blow the whistle in that situation unless it is undeniable.

Seems that officials called it the same both ways.

Whether it be the "intentional" foul on Cayo, or the "potential" foul against Burton, officials decided that they would let the players (not whistles) decide the outcome.

I don't expect a close call there, but really foolish of the Dayton defender. I might have called the 1 and 1 just for the stupidity of getting on Burton's arm on a play like that.

I agree. As others have mentioned, the refs aren't going to call that. A lot of discussion on that. The issue is, it's a discussion that takes back seat to our in game offensive lack of performance and not defending the Dayton slam.

Yep, this was my thought too. They had just saved us by not calling the Cayo foul intentional, even though it was. They weren't going to reward us again by calling the foul on Burton's heave.

I agree with this, thinking the same thing. That was a very bad play by Dayton defender. Reaching in there was like 100th out of 100 on the ways to defend that play.

No way this call gets made at end of game, or even end of half.

But think about this - even if we defend the lob and we go to OT, not sure I love our chances in OT either. Felt like momentum was shifting in Dayton's favor most of 2nd half. Maybe big stop at end of game gives us a boost and we head to OT feeling good. But we lost this game with poor shooting 2nd half and poor execution at the end.
