Believe it or not but Virginia has some really good basketball teams. I would say 4 likely get into the NCAA's with Tech and UVA being locks, likely vcu and probably another team getting an auto bid from a lower conference. Pretty impressive if you ask me especially since Tech and uva seem to be 2 of the best teams in the country. However the Spiders are likely towards the bottom of the list, thoughts on that? I know we have some fans of other teams here in VA on this board, would be interesting to hear some of their thoughts so we get a little positivity about basketball on here for once. VT4700 I bet you're excited for this top ten show down between Tech and uva Tuesday night right?

I think Dell Curry goes off for 34 points, and VaTech upsets the Hoos.

Andrew Wallace of ESPN 950 does a ranking of all state teams. We were in last at one point this year, behind programs like Longwood, Liberty, Radford, William & Mary, etc...

Andrew does a pretty good job with his state rankings, although his inclusion of George Washington is nonsensical.
The Washington Post used to do an Atlantic 11 poll which was fun. I was a voter. It included teams from the DMV. You voted for your Top 10, and they published the Top 11, along with pithy comments from the voters. Richmond never had trouble making the list in the past, but I'm afraid we'd miss it now.
I know I am excited for Tech and uva tomorrow night. It's gonna be the first time the two have ever met as top ten teams. Uva I think wins this one and Tech gets them back in the rematch at Cassell later on. Tech doesn't have the depth that uva does with them missing Landers Nolley and Chris Clarke. Chris Clarke beat up his girlfriend and will be out for the rest of the season. Landers Nolley was a top recruit out of Georgia as a forward and would be a starter for the Hokies if he was eligible to play. If you haven't heard about his ridiculous situation I encourage you to look it up. It's another example of how absurd the NCAA is and it might be worse than the UNC case.
I've come around on Tech since Seth left. Have to admire greatly what Buzz Williams has done up there.
What a difference a good high quality coach makes in the program. Tech was an embarrassment under Johnson, could never make it to the NCAA with Seth, top 10 program with Buzz. I wonder if any Tech fans are wondering if they had just given Johnson one more year?????

VT4700 you're a Tech fan, I'm sure you could shed some light on what you think about Buzz as a coach and how a quality head coach like him could fix the program here at UR.
Hoos take down Hokies on Tuesday night particularly after football embarrassment and basketball loss last year. That said - have we come to this on the Spider message board that we are discussing games between other state teams that don't involve us in any way since neither the Hoos or Hokies will schedule us/ and/or do we try to schedule them?

Not even sure a roster of those guys in D2 would be all that good. Especially with Mooney as the coach.

I am. UVA is my 2nd favorite college team. Unlike some on here, our Spiders will always be #1 for me, no matter the record.

I'm confused how you can regularly watch a UVA team coached by Bennett and then watch a UR team coached by Mooney and think what Mooney is doing is OK.
If there are too polar opposite coaches in the NCAA right now, it would be Bennett and Mooney.

This is an extremely tame message board and an extremely patient fan base. If the stuff you read on here is offensive you need to have thicker skin. Our basketball program is not winning enough. The results speak for themselves and are unacceptable to many of the passionate fans that post here. Of course fans are going to discuss on a message board who should play (more or less), a players strengths and weaknesses, and are going to be critical of a coach in CM’s situation. That’s the point of the board! I don’t see personal attacks on here.

Well chris Mooney is a bottom tier coach in the NCAA just hope you know that bud you may never admit it but how can you not see what he is doing wrong? Please tell me why you are so high on Mooney we would all love to hear.
I get asked this every few weeks, and I have already explained why about 10 times on here. I have also said that I was frustrated with last season, and expected us to do much better this year as long as we did not lose one of our top three.
Last week, I said we should be playing better, even though we are without Nick. The GW win was nice, and I hope we can get a nice streak going. As of now, I am still supportive of our coach.
If I were any other coach that plays us, I would support Mooney too. Guaranteed win with very little scouting needed. SOS
