With our 24-7 record and our second place finish in the A10, all of college basketball has taken note of us. Our little team from suburban Richmond will be ready to make its mark next season and beyond. I say bring it on. Our mighty team of giant killers is back.

Not many big boys will want to play us next year. Our OOC scheduling to secure top level P5 games will be put to a big test.No big boy wants to play against 5 seniors each of whom scored 1,000 career points that finished 24-7 and who will likely be a preseason pick to take the A10.

They were happy to play us, when they thought we were a cupcake team.

Should load up on home games against lower level teams that are predicted to win their leagues. They’d love the chance to get a road win like us.

Nice season. we were a good team and will be next year but check the details.

no dance, but the strong season should help with attracting our recruiting class.
I wonder ... if the AAU live period in April is cancelled, would that help or hurt us or have no effect against the big boys? tough to evaluate and offer just based on junior's high school games. maybe some kids slip through the high major cracks. or maybe we don't find the late bloomers.

not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but 4 game exempt events (like we played this year w/ games) are no longer. The most you can get is 3 games, if I read this correctly.

That's correct, although it hasn't been formally adopted yet. Was supposed to be voted on at the convention in January, but they pushed it back to April to study it more.

A-10 is among the conferences that have suggested elimination of the proposed 29+2 option because they think it would limit neutral court chances against P6 programs.

A three-game event would likely be advantageous for our SOS because you'd have at most one crappy game to go with two featured ones.

It would be nice if the City could get their act together and agree on a new Coliseum option so we could host a RTD type tournament in Nov and maybe attract a few more big opponents for us. I know thats another issue for another day and we've got a lot more urgent/important things going on right now but wishful thinking.

Private sector needs to lead that charge as the citt has bigger fish to fry. No need to build a playground for chesterfield and henrico residents who have no skin in the city game. It needs to be a regional project that has buy in from ALL localities. Not a cash strapped, corrupt one with a history of mismanagement.

That being said, would LOVE a new arena if the numbers add up, not that Navy Hill garbage.

But Navy Hill was going to create approximately 26.4 billion new jobs in just the next 2 years alone!! If you don't believe me, just ask the consulting firm hired by the city to do a totally unbiased analysis!

I actually didn't hate the idea for Navy Hill, but there was a lot of shaky math that I think wasn't going to work out. Dominion did have a lot of skin in the game, though, which was a big step in the right direction. Hopefully they can figure out something else that still involves a ton of private money.

Just shows that the OOC needs to be stronger next season ..... unless Mooney's team goes say 24-7 ... 25-6. I think a competed loss at UK, KU, etc etc rather than a lower rated win would do more to get the Spiders noticed.

Keep in mind that the A10 also tries to match up its top few teams for home-and-homes. That's why VCU has been playing Dayton twice a year, for example. Hopefully we slide into one of those spots next year and get H&Hs with Dayton, SLU and whoever else should be good. Probably Bona? Coupled with what we'll already have with VCU, that could be eight high-level games, potentially at least half of which would be Q1 one way or another.

waiting for the perfect solution you likely miss out on a solution that would work. I just hope we get another chance to have a new venue in the city.

Agreed. It is truly pathetic that for a city and region as much on the come as Richmond has been the last decade or so, we have been completely unable to replace our baseball stadium or arena. It's almost inconceivable that after this many years, we could still be stuck in the same place we were not long after the turn of the century – 20 years ago! Embarrassing.

We will be either preseason 1 or 2 in the conference next year and thus should get the premium A-10 match ups with teams like SLU, Dayton, and/or Rhody.

Im not against the idea of a collesium and if it was 100% privately financed I would of likely supported it. If done like the falcons stadium(but for basketball purposes) any team in the state could host games there and feel like a home game. I’m very much pro growth. Just not for blowing a 300 million dollar hole in city finances. This is a topic I studied extensively in college and most of these are just giveaways to developers while screwing already cash strapped localities.

I’ll get chastised for saying I’m this but I don’t trust Stoney any further than I can throw the fat ram fan. (I say this as a non-partisan left leaning voter). My personal interactions with him have not been pleasant. And his record before Richmond upon further review leaves much to be desired between slashing your opponents tires and more than a few complaints from restaurants that he walks out on tabs.

And touching on your next post, being a commonwealth makes it virtually impossible to get regional projects like this done. Actually remember URFan when the board first started years ago talking about RIC airport vs CHA and US airways becoming a hub. It spurred my interest in why we never get big things done.
