When is the last time a 4.3-4.4 guy on the team? That is moving. I am trying to remember the small
player who ran several kicks back for the Spiders and played I thing in the 80s. Also it looked like Huesman
wanted to focus on the DL and LB core. Successful football teams start with strong lines on both sides of
the ball.

Cortrelle Simpson has 4.3-4.4 speed - at least that is how he was advertised when he transferred to UR last year. Looking like we have a lot of speed in this class.

Sligh is heading to Yale.

BTW,the Ivy League has gotten more aggressive in their recruiting.

Yale has made a concerted effort to have a top team.Their coach, their AD,their University President, their Admissions Office are rowing the boat all in synch to help with recruiting.Yale finished ranked this season and had a very good team on both sides of the ball.Witnessed the Y-H game in front of 52,000.

As we all know there are no athletic scholarships but kids all find a way to finance a yearly $65,000 price tab. Both Sligh and Bobo found those funds which amount to at least $260,000.

READ THESE COMMENTS:after Y-H game from the New Haven Register

“This was the last football game for Yale Director of Athletics Tom Beckett, who has announced he will retire in June after 24 years leading the program. Beckett, who received kind words and a hug from Harvard coach Tim Murphy at the press conference, drove the restoration project for the Yale Bowl, and hired Reno back from Harvard to restore the pride in Yale football.

“He took a chance on a 37-year-old kid (five) years ago,” said Reno, who along with his team members, presented the game ball to Beckett last week at Princeton. “We’ve had tremendous support from Tom, and President Peter Salovey, and the admissions staff. It takes a village to build it. He was the guy driving the boat that allowed us to do what we were able to do.”

Richmond completes football classe in second signing phase
JOHN O'CONNOR·13 hours ago

Division I football's first early-signing period began on Dec. 20, and University of Richmond coach Russ Huesman went into that three-day stretch projecting he would fill about half of UR's incoming class.

The Spiders ended up signing 11, significantly more than half, on Dec. 20. Five more signed on Wednesday, the first day of the traditional signing period.

"The five we got are really good. We had to battle," said Huesman, who strongly supports the early-signing period. "It was actually tougher to sign these five than it was the previous 11 because you didn't have (competing programs during the December phase) digging in late, losing people. ... These kids, you're not sleeping three or fours days prior to the signing day."

UR is likely to add a few transfers in the spring or summer, according to Huesman.

I like RH's comparison of the program to Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Duke. It's about the next 40 years, not about the next 4 - championship football and a world class education.

Is it a concern we don't have a QB in this class?
Russ was asked this question last night. His reply was that we had two really good QB's plus a freshman that he is very high on. He said that they will bring in a QB next year. If you have relatively known quantities at the QB position (Johnson because of the play-offs last year) and Mancuso (MVP of the spring game) both of whom have at least 2 years, recruiting a QB to sit does not make as much sense as filling another need.

Not for me, Coach addressed it and he seemed pretty happy with the Johnson, Mancuso etc. Plus it's got to be hard to recruit one with as many as we already have on the roster.

the potential change in the rules to allow players to play in 4 games without losing their redshirt would be a terrific change especially for FCS.

I agree. Also add in the fact that FBS transfers are always plentiful and eligible immediately.

RH mentioned that there were walk-ons not returning, and that they hope to be at 95 when camp rolls around this summer. Any idea as to who may not be returning, either walk-ons or scholarship guys? I guess we will find out on 3/20 when spring practice starts.
