This roster does have some pieces that I think would react well to a new coach. Again, I saw some of the worst EFFORT on defense I have ever seen. That is not scheme. I don't care who is injured or not, you cannot just get out of the way when the guy with the ball makes a move to the basket. Unreal. I don't know many coaches that would not call a timeout, remove the player and go ballistic on just that one play. but it happens again, again and again.
Watching game with a friend. Our comment "Richmond is the worst defensive team we have ever seen." No effort, no fight. That is equally on the Coach and the players. The matchup zone creates so many mismatches even in the back court that a guard receives the ball before the “matchup” takes place and unless its a very speedy guard on our side trying to get in position, their guard easily blows by them. Coaches have to be laughing at this horrible D system.Yes, there was so many plays that Hampton player just dribbled right to the hoop with NO resistance. And I saw a couple threes were we were just looking at the guy, no hand up, no effort to do anything.
When you know you are defeated even when you hustle like crazy, it likely wears on the players. I bet there was a lot more effort in earlier games but they still were getting tooled. The “system” sucks.Watching game with a friend. Our comment "Richmond is the worst defensive team we have ever seen." No effort, no fight. That is equally on the Coach and the players. Coach, it seems our boy’s feet are glued to the floor when it’s time to rebound. How many missed shots did we see bounce out to the foul line and our guys never move to go get it. Reminds me of our defensive backs on the football team. They never turn around and find the ball.i hate to say but some players already the giving up before this game and now and it shows always always always always on the defense first , everybody likes to score.
The loss of confidence, the loss of positive energy can cause exactly what you are observing. It only takes a small hesitation or a fraction of divestment to make a player slow in reaction and appear lethargic. I don't think I saw a lack of effort tonight or lack of interest. I saw doubt, exhaustion, and then some acceptance that this is over tonight. They need Gilyard's energy as much as they need his speed. Mooney knows his stuff, but his hangdog attitude is doing nothing to provide energy right now. He needs to show more fight and more encouragement even during the worst of times.Coach, it seems our boy’s feet are glued to the floor when it’s time to rebound. 86 Points by Hampton....teach them a darn 2-1-2 defense, it can't be any worse. The loss of confidence, the loss of positive energy can cause exactly what you are observing. moving at times to a zone instead of a match up zone would protect the rim and protect the exhaustion that Golden is enduring as he is out on the perimeter and then sprinting down to the basket to give help and to rebound.86 Points by Hampton....teach them a darn 2-1-2 defense, it can't be any worse.
They still played on offense but we looked like a rec league team on defense, just letting players get to the rim after they were beat. No help side, no hard fouls, no recovery, if they were beat, they were beat and that was that. The loss of confidence, the loss of positive energy can cause exactly what you are observing. Not that I am defending the D, it was sieve-like, but there were at least three super hard fouls we gave. You must have been getting beers when those happened. No help side, no hard fouls, no recovery, if they were beat, they were beat and that was that.
Not saying they quit but they defintely quit trying very hard on defense last night.
Speaking of beers, it just occurred to me as I read your post that Hardt just might get it. As Jethro Gibbs says "no such thing as a coincidence". Hardt pushed for beer sales after last year's miserable season and just in time for this year's debacle. He knew. Yep, he knew. Not that I am defending the D, it was sieve-like, but there were at least three super hard fouls we gave. You must have been getting beers when those happened.
