Bryce Golden hits the portal

Would be a great get! I'm not sure he could replicate all of the passing and skills Grant has at our 5 position, but more athletic and stronger rebounder. Let's get him, Quinn, and Wright and call it a day.
Yeah ... different player than Grant although most of his games that I watched were in earlier seasons ... Comfortable shooting from 3s .. Wish I could have heard some of the chats that he and TJ had sitting together at the A10 tournament

he'll get big offers. but who knows what he's looking for. could be a shot at a final 4. or could be a relationship with a coach and happiness that he saw in his brother.

I don't know, sman. At this stage of his career, do you really think he's looking for a relationship with a coach for the short term? Maybe at Westhampton, but I doubt with coaches.

maybe he feels guilt for not committing here the first time? lol

He will be looking for a shot to cut some nets down. Any ACC team would love to have him. We should be the only non P5 with a chance at him.

That is what I heard during their tourney.
Makes sense to me. Butler is definitely trending in the wrong direction in the Big East.

Spending one year on a rebuilding UR team doesn’t seem like a good fit for Bryce, but I am sure his Mom would be happy with a much shorter trip to see his games.

He's not coming here.
Are you sure?

I heard Grant tell him that he had 2,000 Points, and 1,000 Rebounds.

At that time Bryce broke out into a show tune from "Annie get your gun".

So obviously coming here to average 37 points and 20 rebounds a game...

Native, I completely understand your reasoning. But, this is where Mooney has to sell the vision.

My pitch: You will be a monster in the A10 - look at your brother, and you are the more athletic, stronger, better looking brother (JK Grant :)). You can step in and dominate in a top 10 league. Nelson is the real deal. We get you and a stud 2 guard along with Burton and between the rest of the cast we can be in the running for the A10 championship and an at large.

Bryce hasn’t made the NCAAs yet, have to think he will want to go somewhere that is a guaranteed at-large for his final season.

Very few places can guarantee that. Look at UVA and Bennett. He has beat K and UNC and rest of the ACC like a drum the last several years - did not make ncaa this season. Every year there are teams pre season top 25 that fall off the face of the earth. See Kentucky last season. No guarantees. Mooney has the pieces, needs to sell a couple transfers on the vision.

Agreed. Definitely seems like if there was a chance of UR getting a previous P6 1 year big, Bryce is the likeliest. I am sure both Grant and Mrs. Golden would be in favor. Still think that is a rather small chance, but Mooney and staff have to be trying and trying hard.

(typo on first submission, but I think most folks got my point. Big East > A10)

I would love to have him but I also have to think if he was going to join us it would have been when he could play with Grant, and not try to replace him. On the other hand we saw the almost impossible last week, so maybe there are more pleasant suprises in store for us.

Is the big east P5? Definitely a power conference, but no football.

Maybe he didn't want to compete with him for playing time?

He also only averaged 9 points and 3 rebounds a game this year for a mediocre Butler team that apparently is getting its coach fired. Presumably he could do better than that if he started and played 30+ minutes for us, but who knows. If he tries to transfer up, he'll be giving up playing time and his numbers will look worse than they did this year. I assume he'd be looking to move to a better situation at a similar or slightly lower level.

Yeah, I watched Bryce several games. He is a nice player who would fit us well. I'm sure some P6 would be interested for him but probably more in a reserve roll. We have an open 4 spot here that he would fit really nice in. So, the question is, does he want to come play for a tourney team, in which case maybe he looks for another P6 or does he want a place where he can play starters minutes and work on his game to go play oversees after that. If the latter is the case, maybe he looks here.

I think their will be considerable A-10 interest in Bryce.

This is where Mooney needs to prove his worth and fill the gaps with guys we want not our 2nd or 3rd transfer options...

Think Bryce would be a super fit at the stretch 4 position. As opposed to Cayo - who was most effective working down low ( I give Mooney a lot of credit here - he started pounding the ball down low to Cayo two years ago) Bryce can step out and hit the three - the Justin Harper role in our offense. And he is athletic. I also think Quinn or the VMI center would be good fits with Bryce and Burton. Quinn and Stephens not the most athletic, but very skilled. Throw Grace and Noyes in the mix and now you have an NCAA bid contention front court. Very good front court. Sell the vision Mooney.

And bring in a shooter. BANG.
