Watching yesterday's game and the CBS play-by-play guy spent the game calling CM "Moon" because they are friendly 'from their days back in Philly'. Last week, the Analyst on the Davidson game was some guy that was a stand-up comedian who also played basketball at Princeton and, clearly, had some sort of personal relationship with CM. That guy called CM "one of the best coaches in the country". It feels like the examples of this phenomenon are numerous.

How has the broadcasting community been totally infected with people with personal relationships with our Coach? How many times per year do we get to hear a game with impartial commentators? One or two?

They are complicit in this, no doubt about it. They all either like him personally or do no real research, or both. And what do they care, they'll broadcast a game or two of ours and move on to the next one. They aren't paid to be critical, so they just repeat the BS they've been fed or heard others say, describe what's happening in the game and collect a paycheck.

This is why Mooney’s career needs to be in broadcasting! He’s a nature for it.

Honestly, sounds exactly like our AD, administration, and Queally. They’ve been told constantly that he’s a great coach so they just parrot that narrative along with the all time winningest coach line. No real data analysis or perspective of 2 NCAA’s in 17 years, no A-10 regular season titles, routine early exits from the A-10 tournament, etc. Add in the personal “relationships” and access and you’ve got a tenured head basketball coach.

These guys do tons of games a year with dozens of teams. They generally know very little about them. Most of the time they are given a pregame talking sheet with the headlines each SID thinks are noteworthy. That’s why you hear the same stories year in and year out.

Perhaps there are a few friendly voices who know CM personally but by and large it’s a talking points memo they’re working against.
