#BringBackTheRowdyRun

No idea but it was awesome. Think it got lost somewhere between wainwright and mooney not sure but was disappointed to see it end.

I think they cut it because it was pretty lame. Half the time it seemed there were hardly any students, and the half-empty arena was either not paying attention or not all that interested. It felt pretty bush league.

Maybe they should bring it back selectively -- e.g. for any sellout games, or any game where there are more than 300 students in attendance. Perhaps a bit of an incentive for the rowdies to get students out to the games? It's always good to have a target to shoot for.

Maybe we should hire 300 kids to be the rowdies. If people will stand outside during tax season dressed as Statue of Liberty , I think it would be more fun being a professional fan. :). Don't attack me, I am just kidding. :)

It started out as spontaneous, graduated to planned, and then became obligatory. It was appropriately retired at that point.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new tradition begin, could be similar or wholly new.

Anything to replace the we are UR cheer...

Bring back the Robbin Thompson song used during the Tarrant era about "catching a rising star tonight." Why did that go away?

Must admit never liked the "We are UR" chant. Surely we can come up with something better or fresh and new. How long have we had that chant?

There are a lot of simply chants that could be done and believe crowd would get into it, but they really need to start with students and cheerleaders. Whole purpose is to annoy the opposing team during play not just during a TO. Have to agree the We R UR hasn't worked well for a while, depending on when they try it. Most fun one we did in early 80's was have rowdy students go center court and do the Give me an S, Give me a P all the way through to spell SPIDERS and it was fun because it was led by them. Would love to see our cheerleaders and Rowdies come up with some creative ones and "can" the old and tired stuff. Just need once again to get out of the box and try something new.

This ties in a lot with the new marketing director.

I felt the extra kids in the band in Saturday was great. When the high school band played the band was loud and sounded good. Imagine if we had a bigger band with students. We say we should try something new. That would help.

I have had a thought for a while now; and that is that during the National Anthem, we all actually sing it. The people who sing the anthem at each game should encourage those in attendance to "join in the singing of The National Anthem." Many years ago, that was the mantra before any singing of the anthem at any sporting event. I think for the spectators to sing the anthem would make us unique (unfortunately). Any thoughts from the posters?

Sort of like the UR Chant, as when Mo and the boys were marching out of the AC Convention Center after beating Dayton.

WR70, I mentioned earlier maybe getting some local high school bands to attend some of the weekday games. Expose them to the college atmosphere and help us out with music and enthusiasm.

I believe it got lost because like 05 said - you need Rowdies and fans to make it work. And there have been times, even this season - when both of those groups are low in the numbers.

I agree - it was great and should make a return. We know the VCU game will be packed - lets try it out then.

Great memory.

don't go to many games, but when I've seen it, it was awful. Stolen from W&M.

I would rather read FRS Posts than be subjected to the Rowdy Run.

Well the new President is a music guy. Maybe he'll push for a bigger band!
