Don't know much about them, but it has got to be good we are playing a 4th seed. Anyone watch their game with St Louis?

St. Louis is a tough team. It was a rock fight. St. Louis tried to attack inside mano y mano and it didn't work. That leaves the Spiders as the last team in the A10 remaining. It looked like State was able to disrupt the Bill's inside game.

That won’t hurt us. We have no inside game.

The focus between now and the game will be 1) reducing turnovers on offense, especially with the freshman guards, 2) using quickness on offense to draw the zone defense out to make close in and midrange shots, a weakness of State defense, and 3) forcing turnovers and disrupting MSU`s offense. Cayo, Grace and Sal will be key. State has inside trees.

Seems likely that Blake will be available, right? It will have been almost a month.

It will depend on how well the freshmen can play solid defense without getting into foul trouble. This is an interesting take on the defense/ offense matchup:

The Miss. State offense exhibits a solid preference for inside shots over those from longer-distance, while the Richmond defense is more balanced, allowing a mixture of shots from both the paint and the perimeter...

The Richmond defense will likely create truckloads of ball-security issues for the Miss. State offense. Offensively, Miss. State isn't the sloppiest team in the world, but they've definitely got some ball-security issues. Their rating for potential quick points allowed off steals needs improvement, as the team places 247th in the nation in that category. As for the opposition, the intrusive Richmond D will typically be up in your grill and can force several turnovers. They rate well in our analytics on this front, landing at #9 in the nation in potential quick points scored off steals and #55 in defensive field goal attempt rate.

Very interesting Gallipoli- thanks

I'm just glad we're playing a team that is not familiar with Mooneyball. Our A10 opponents have seen so many years of Mooney game management, that they can lip-sync the whole script.

That is fascinating. It makes sense that a team with ball security issues is a good matchup for us.

This site predicts the makeup of shot selection in-game. This takes into account our ability to drive to the basket against the taller and slower players of Mississippi State. When Richmond has the ball, our guard play and ability to generate layups and assists will be very important. This will come down to Gilyard, Goose and the freshman guards, and Cayo.

SHOOTING PERCENTAGE: Richmond has been converting field goals at a solid rate and is rated our #31 team in overall field goal percentage this season. Meanwhile, the Miss. State defense sports one of college basketball's better defensive field goal percentages, ranking 30th in the country in that category. On this end of the court, the Richmond offense has a notable advantage in near-proximity shooting, while the Miss. State defense has the edge in both three-point shooting and mid-range shooting. This site expects Richmond to shoot 32.9% from three (1.2% below the D1 average), 34.0% from the mid-range (4.3% below the D1 average), 67.4% from near-proximity locations (8.4% above the D1 average), and 43.4% overall (0.3% below the D1 average).

That's correct...they're having a third-place game this year.

If you're in Virginia, you cannot bet on Virginia schools on DraftKings (or any of the legal sites).

It’s neither. There’s no line on DK. Due to uncertainty on injury situation. It’s common for lines to be pulled temporarily or delayed under these circumstances. There will be a line eventually.

But I thought draftkings was nation wide? Are they virginia only, therefore no lines for Virginia schools?

The communication and coordination between the guards and Grace, Sal, Tyler and Cayo will be key. We cant have careless throws and turnovers.

Virginia's law on sportsbetting forbid betting on Virginia teams. They just don't show as option to bet on the betting apps. When you sign up for any of the apps, they use the location tracking features to determine where you are located.

It is a bummer, cause I would have made a nice little mint off of our St. Joes and Duquesne performances.

True but there is no line for this game on DK anywhere right now. I'm out of state and have DK. It has nothing to do with the VA rules right now. Perhaps after the "game time decision" presser today there will be a line (except in VA!).

Oh agreed. I was just explaining why you don't even see the lines on the sports betting apps for Virginia teams. I wish I could bet on Richmond, given that I follow the team closely and knows it's strengths and alas its weaknesses. The line where were Duquesne was getting 6.5 points in the A-10 tourney game would have been straight cash money.

you might have lost your bankroll on the Toledo game though!

then you'd have been safe. think it was close to even. Toledo might have been a slight favorite when Golden and Francis were ruled out.

Appears Miss St lacks a good point so hopefully Spiders will turn them over plenty. Though they are BIG and Mooney's bug-a-boo in giving up offensive rebounds must be kept to a minimum. WTH is a minimum I don't know but a number that doesn't cause a loss. Miss St had 22 against Bama and still got smoked during SEC tourney.

If we have enough bodies, this seems like a team we can pressure a bit.

Mississippi St. is 294th in fewest turnovers per game, so yes, hopefully Jacob can have a field day.

Their height and overall record would suggest that big doesn't necessarily equal good. I know they are young, so we should be able to take advantage of that and outsmart then since we won't be able to out-physical them.

I’m surprised they are allowed to return home. I thought the whole point of a single location was to keep the teams quasi-isolated. Perhaps impractical if it’s multiple weeks but I thought if there was a time for a bubble experiment it was now.

Eight days between games is an awfully long time to just be hanging out. Of course, there’s a lot of just hanging out in Richmond too.
Perhaps they could have done virtual learning. Or is that not common these days?

Wondering if cost factored in here? A hotel room for each player, coach, trainer on the team for 8 days has to be a hell of a lot more expensive than driving back and forth or flying

NCAA pays most of the expenses.

Even if that weren’t the case, not sure the cost difference is that much. An extra round trip charter flight ain’t cheap.
