i know its very early in the season and i hope we get better and start rolling with some wins, but if we dont would a 3-9 or 4-7 mean a coaching change ? i am not endorsing it just wondering. i will continue going to games and supporting the team , but the games have a different feel now . when does apathy set in? i hope i am very wrong

To be honest, I think apathy was there even before Saturday. It was a really nice September day and an evening start and the parking lots were half filled until close to kickoff and the crowd was pretty poor overall.

By the middle of the third quarter, the place was a ghost town. Did you see John O'connor's tweet with a picture of the crowd before the 4th quarter began? It was ugly.

it would seem that apathy would be the worst thing to happen to a program , i still get excited on game days, and allways sad when the season ends , last year dissapointment turned to anger cause we didnt win some game we should have, now i look at the schedule , besides albany and fordham , hard to see a win, to quote don corleone how did things go so wrong? and when will the powers who be say enough is enough

I think it boils down to the motivation level of the team. If the kids are showing fire, I think Russ will come back at 4-8 or even 3-9. If they continue to look as disorganized and disinterested as they were on Saturday, I think they pull the plug. Its not nearly as expensive an endeavor to pull the plug as it is in basketball.

What im not sure the AD fully grasps is just how long it will take for people to come back after a period of morbid results. People don't come back overnight.

i agree they will beat fordham and albany, after that gonna have to play alot better, this program needs a quality win to get back on track, i guess we can only hope

I think we beat Stoney Brook, Yale and W&M. That would make us 6-6. Honestly, we look like a 6-6 team. Could we go 5-7 or 7-5? Sure, but that depends on injuries and turnovers.

Agree should win next 2 but do not think that will ignite squad. Sadly, believe players are not motivated by coaches or have trust in system. Look forward to pre and post game activities with alums but games are painful, dull, and saturated with poor and undisciplined play. Until entertainment returns, crowds will lessen.

I wished I shared your optimism. I don't think we looked anywhere near as good as a 6-6 team on Saturday. I know it's a long season and players and coaches can improve but we looked disorganized, un focused, and flat. I keep harping on it but if our tackling doesn't improve we aren't going to win many more games this year. We aren't good enough on offense to overcome those defensive and special teams breakdowns that occur so frequently right now.

i think we would be foolish to be taking any games for granted at this point. i'd like to think we will whip up on Fordham, considering how we did last year. We beat Albany by last year by 3 in a nip and tuck game. Yale was competitive in the Ivy and won't have as much on tape for us. We were not competitive with Stony Brook last year.

Regarding the Tribe, they hammered a Colgate team that was a NCAA quarter finalist last year. Mike may have some momentum.

Getting to 6-6 would require us to win 5 more games. I'm just not sure i see it. And don't minimize the fact that our small roster will thin out and wear down as the season progresses too. The Tribe have a roster of 98 and we show 82.

+1 To me you can tell a lot by looking at how the players are interacting on the sideline.
Last year it looked like most were there because there was required attendance. JAX game interaction was pretty good- last week was more morgue like.

Lack of winning coupled with a poor game day atmosphere(AD bares responsibility for this) leads to indifference among the fan base which I think has started to set-in. Once it starts it is hard to turn around.

Mooney is here for 14 years and gets yet another pass and Huesman only gets 3 and gets canned. I don't see it happening. I think a head coach deserves at least 4 years to get his player and system implemented. I don't like anything about how things are trending though with the football team. Tons of red flags to me, but if I'm the AD, barring a player revolt and a complete collapse of a season, Huesman gets at least 1 more year.

No, he does not. I think that is pretty clear at this point. I hope someone grasps this before it becomes too late. Look at the Redskins right now. An alpha dog NFL franchise that has oversold and underperformed for years now. Their paying fan base has left them. There stadium is overrun by other team's fan or sits half empty when its not.

And think of the size of the Redskins fanbase and then look at our fanbase's size. Hardt is already losing ardent supporters of our athletics due to the hoops fiasco, if football is turning south as well, it could get ugly.

But at least, we affirmed we are going to "compete for championships"

UR @ Fordham 9/28

Fordham @ Yale 10/4

Yale @ UR 10/19

Yale QB is the equivalent of Elon QB Cheek.
Yale preseason top Ivy pick.

Colgate lost a ton due to graduation and is a shell of its former self.

For clarity's sake, my point on Yale is that they start their season in week 4. They will have loads more tape on us than we will on them.

Disappointing game. Supposed to “protect” your home field. Spides have now lost last 5 home conference games. Avg. score 44-17.
Ouch.

It's interesting to note that Russ had immediate results at UTC, but didn't break out above a .500 ballclub until year 5.

Russ’ success at UTC is closely correlated to his son Jacob as QB,given his size and running abilities.

UTC record with Jacob at QB:

2012 (6-5,5-3)

2013 (8-4,6-2)

2014 (10-4,7-0)

2015 ( 9-4,6-1)

Tend to agree he will get another year. A quick glance at the roster I saw only two true Juniors that have any stats to speak of, so those are his recruits I believe, that leaves RS Sophomores, RS Freshman and Freshman as his and he likely will get at least a chance for his players to reach their fourth year in program to see how things pan out.

the key to our level of football is scoring 30+ points per game and if we cannot do that, not going to win too many. yes, D, is vital and keep you in some games but you have to score because of the offenses which just light it up.

Sadly, the powers that be don't work in the athletic department....Just the fact that we're hoping for 6-6 this year is all anyone needs to know.
