Bonnies lose a legend

At one time he also was thought to have had the biggest feet in college basketball...

Ha! The picture in my head is getting a little hazy, but I think I recall a famous photo of Lanier posing with his giant shoes...they may have been Converse white high tops which were cutting edge in the 60s...

RIP
Size 22. In basketball HOF. You could raise a family in them.

The personification of St. Bonaventure basketball, very well liked man! From Wikipedia -

In September 2018, Lanier cited one of his most notable NBA memories: "...when I was still playing in Milwaukee and I was getting gas at a station on, I think it was Center St. A guy came up to me and said, 'My dad is sick. And you're his favorite player. Could you come up to the house and say hello to him? The house is right next door.' So I went over, I went upstairs. The guy was laying there in his bed. His son said, 'This is Bob,' and he was like, 'I know.' And he just had a little smile, a twinkle in his eye. And he grabbed my hand and squeezed it. And we said a little prayer. About two weeks later, his dad had died. And he left a card at the Bucks office, just saying 'Thank you for making one of my dad's final days into a good day.'"[25]

My great aunt worked in the cafeteria at St. Bonaventure when Lanier was a student. She said he was the nicest man, always respectful, friendly and courteous to the staff.

If you grew up a college BB fan in Western New York in the 1960s-70s, Lanier was a god. He wanted to go to Canisius, but they would not admit him because of his spotty academic record. SBU had no such qualms and Lanier did just fine there.
