I think I'm finally on the RussBuss. I was very disrespectful towards him being our head coach at first but he is a winner and will do even better than Rocco here.
I believe we used to sit in the same section as you at the Robins center a few years back. Wait until next spring and I can come by the cellar and hang out with y'all. Maybe even bring you and some Spider fans up to a Tech game. It's all turned around for you since you astutely pointed out the Bobby Bobbinson is a coke head. The sky is the limit, Young Skywalker!
If London took the Howard offer that suggests to me that if we had gone after him we could have gotten him. I don't know what Howard pays its HC, but could it be close to what UR offers?
It is interesting how far he has fallen since the national championship with us and then the ill-fated move to UVA. I suspect he will eventually make it back to a point where he is in demand, but Howard likely will require "starting from the bottom and earning his way back up the ladder." It is likely not a highly desirable job to land....Anybody know the pay he will be earning this next season?
I'm glad we got the guy we did, but my bet is that London's stock will be on an upwards trajectory in the next 2-5 years.... ,
I could see him ending up with the Indians if he does well at Howard. Laycock doesn't have too much longer, I'd say 3-4 years at the most.London will never coach at Richmond again, not even as an assistant.
Interesting thought, but I don't think so. The Indians are pretty sharp when it comes to football.I could see him ending up with the Indians if he does well at Howard. Laycock doesn't have too much longer, I'd say 3-4 years at the most.
Explains why they have won a lot of games recently.Interesting thought, but I don't think so. The Indians are pretty sharp when it comes to football.
True but y'all have been around more than me. I have only been watching UR and the Indians for a little over ten years and it's been pretty one sided im during that time.thats a little harsh look how many guys who coached under him are head coaches , i would think he still knows football
I agree, pretty cool he has stayed there for so long. I believe he was offered the Tech job befor Beamer. I can tell you if I ever got the head coaching job at UR I wouldn't leave unless it was big time. I always said to my dad growing up that if I was a 5 star recruit with offers from Alabama and Ohio State that I would only go to UR. It's the love I have for UR and I would kill to run through the tunnel for my hometown and in front of my family and friends and all the people I went to games with growing up. It's a shame it couldn't happen.i would just say he could have left earlier in his career , but he stayed loyal to william and mary , and won same games , schooled some great coaches, and i have only heard good things about him from his ex players , to me loyalty is a very important thing , that makes him a winner.
Rocco didn't want to leave but when he did he did some damage as most do when they are unhappy with their boss.
I'm a bit surprised W&M is doing as well in recruiting. They picked up several decommits from UR (Fox, Pitts, Evans). I know W&M is on par with UR academically, but thought some recruits might shy away due to Laycock's age something that eventually hurt Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno and Frank Beamer.
Laycock actually has three understudies in the NFL, two former players in Mike Tomlin (Steelers) and Sean McDermott (Bills), plus Dan Quinn (Falcons) was a former assistant coach at W&M. Laycock has a lot of former assistants coaching in college, including Russ Huesman, who coached there for a number of years.
Tribe now has facilities as good as anyone in the conference. They have a lot of very good, young talent coming back on both sides of the ball. They signed the all time VHSL passing QB and #2 rated FCS QB recruit in the country, who is already enrolled for spring ball. Plus, a very good rFr QB ready to step in. OC and alum was Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb and Bret Favre's QB coach. Tribe, despite 3 playoffs and a semi-final appearance in the past 6-7 years, have been inconsistent, but don't be surprised to see a legitimate run/effort starting to materialize to get Laycock a NC to finish his legacy.
Bowden and Paterno were both in their 80's before they stepped down, so, Laycock at 68 is still far from that category. I would venture that Beamer's health issues contributed to his slowing down at 69.
London would have no chance of heading the program after Laycock steps down.
