That was a damn fine performance. Yeah, I know BC might not be all that good this year, but they are an ACC team and we were missing one of our best players. And we steamrolled them. I have a larger observation regarding our defense but I'll save that for another thread.

Here are my player observations.

Gilyard: The last 5 minutes of the first half and the entire second half were about as a dominant performance you will see from any player. He was simply masterful, making steals, hitting big shot after big shot, setting up his teammates. BC had no answer for Gilyard.

Francis: Very solid game. Love his hustle and shot making ability. He scores point when no one else can or wants to and that is going to keep us in games when the rest of the team gets out of sync.

Cayo: Great first half before tweaking his ankle. Showed off a variety of moves around the basket. Quiet second half, didn't need him, but glad he could grit it out.

Sherod: I've said it before, that Andre and Burton are gonna be taking some of his minutes at time if he can't supply offense. Today was exhibit A. Ended up not needing his offense, but scorers who go 1-9 and 0-5 from 3, are gonna lose some minutes

Sal: Big opportunity for Sal, getting the start. Didn't think he capitalized as much as he could. Looked really tentative on offense. Needs to take the shots when they come to him on offense. I thought he gave us some really good defense in his time out there though.

Burton: Damn: This guy's energy is relentless. He is literally all over the court, but also much more under control. His size, athletic ability, and instincts as a rebounder and defensive player is something we haven't seen in a long time. As great of a game as Gilyard had, glad he the player of the game nod, cause he deserved it.

Andre: Also another really good game. We are seeing his role develop, as a player who can basically play anywhere from the 1-3 out there, play some lock down defense, active on boards and can hit some shots.

Grace: Trying to say something positive, but I just can't. Gilyard even gift wrapped him a bunny and he missed it. Just a very passive player on both ends.

Woj: The battle between Woj and Andre, 2 players who we thought we going to battle it out for one spot, I think has been decively won by Goose. Woj is a 3 point shooter and he keeps passing up looks. Confidence looks really shaken.

Gus, Francis and Gilyard are so quick on defense, that it really forces opposing guards
to be more deliberate and tentative with their ball handling. Mooney made these comments
after game on TV and I think it is a good observation. Throw in quickness and length of Cayo,
Burton and Sal, and it is a lethal defense.

We're going to need Woj before season is over. You can never have enough good players. That being said, he has to get over his bad habit of pump faking when he's open and dribbling into getting guarded. Repeating the same mistake over and over, gets you a seat on the bench. His game vs. STFU was what I expected from him, 7 points, 2 3s and all around solid game.

Think about how far we’ve come in the past month. Our defense has become a real strength!

Kudos have to be given to the coaching staff and the players for admitting it was a problem, really focusing on it and actually improving it!

Great post. Cayo might develop into one of our most important players. Great moves down low w size and not afraid to be the guy going to the basket.

We're going to need Woj before season is over. You can never have enough good players.

I don't see a definite Woj need. He's the 9th man in what looks like a good 8 man rotation. Will need an injury other than GG, Cayo, Sal for him to get more time. There was never a battle between Gust and Woj like 97 stated for me. Gust can play the point and D. Woj can't do the first and not nearly as good at the latter. NEED priority existing has benefited Gust.

Woj played plenty of minutes last season cause of no Nick and Blake. Add Connor next season and I still see no significant minutes for Woj. Maybe his senior season? Either 1) he transfers West 2) less likely RS here 3) enjoys cheering the team on to an NCAA bid ..... maybe watching his body language during TOs too much but that's what I see. Hopefully wrong and it works out for him at UR.

Jersey, yes I am guessing Woj and his basketball family tradition - he wants to play. As you noted, with Crabtree eligible and Nick, Gilly, Francis back, and Gus, the writing is likely on the wall. Tough spot for him.

Re: Wojcik, grad transfers are still a possibility after this season, regardless of how well we do.

Woj needs to keep working hard and be patient. Never know when the opportunity will present itself (injuries, transfers, foul trouble) and you're needed in a big way again.

Clearly he has been shuffled down the bench early on this year but I hope he keeps his head up and stays prepared.

Woj is a streaky player; don't want him losing confidence and not even shooting 3's. When he is "on" he can fill the bucket............... Here is to him hitting a couple of 3's and feeling good about his shot............

There will be situations we real need him to perform. I remember against Georgetown and how he was at point cause Gilyard was out and how well he played.

I just happened to notice that EL :). A dollar and two years short on that train as usual. I did see a couple national writers starting to tout UNC-G for the top 25. This after losing one of their all time players. As usual, I was well ahead of the curve on Miller. Pat pat.

Me either. Woj and Goose are different players and thought it was clear before the season started that we had a definitive need for Goose's skill set and Woj's skills were replaced by a superior player in Frances. The season thus far has born that out. What has surprised me is Goose growing into his enhanced role and Woj growing out of his diminished role. Woj is good insurance for injuries or an off game, so hopefully he keeps/regains his confidence because I think we will need him some games.
