Baylor 6pm Friday

7pm eastern.

spider Twitter just said broadcast still being worked on.

Baylor has a lot of goodwill projects to do to make up for recent history. Win for all parties involved. Awfully nice of them to be willing to let us use their stadium, have free admission, etc.

Baptists to the rescue!
Baylor University is the largest Baptist university in the world

Waco is About 2 hours and 15 minutes from Huntsville. I guess some folks will still attend the game.

Hard to compete with high school football starting up in Texas on a Friday night. Free admission might help.

Any predictions as to how the storm will affect the preparation/players/game from either or both teams perspective?

I have to believe SHSU will come out sky high, if we can withstand the initial assault and get up on them it may cause a fall from which they can recover. I also have to believe the fans (Baylor and local) will want to support SHSU due to the recent weather events. Flip side I believe our guys will be more focused due to the delays, up and down times.

We have a lot more in common with Baylor academically than SHSU does, so maybe we'll have a few fans there. Ok, I'm reaching, but hey.

Our guys are certainly use to doing the unexpected like College Game Day, UVA last year, Duke for several years, etc...
I empathize with the turmoil that has taken over parts of Texas and especially SHS. They will have the state of Texas behind
them and they will be psyched to the point of "remember the Alamo". Yet I don't count out our guys on this big stage.

A questions for anyone who understands the finances of college athletics better than I (which would be most anyone) If part of the reward/payment we got for travelling half way across the country to play a football game was whatever fee SHSU paid and TV money. Well now without the TV money are we solely on the hook for our travel cost (minus whatever the fee from SHSU is paying). Wouldn't you think for all this we should get a home and home arrangement? Or maybe we should have scheduled another FBS to replace the BC game for a payout?

I thought this was a great idea for the exposure and I'm certainly glad the game is being played (can't wait) and Friday is a good date. Just wondering about the financials.

Whatever TV money was in this game is/was a pittance. We were getting $75k for this game from SHS. I doubt much on that changes. We're probably just paying more out of pocket with adjusted travel plans for the team and equipment. The $75k probably covered our cost. Maybe they throw in a few extra bones. Whatever the cause, none of the arithmetic on them coming up here changes.

This is really going to be a challenge
If we get through this one with a win
This train is moving with no stops until we are back in Texas for the finale Go Spiders
Moo Da Chains
Peanut just out of curiosity are you from the southeast va peanut farming area? So like Isle of Wight, Southampton?

Great news about ESPN3, good job whomever

I am surprised ESPN getting us to move a game so they'd have some programming Sunday night, the only game on tv at the start of college football season and the payment we receive is a pittance?

peanut crop rotation saved tobacco farmers and G. W. Carver found hundreds of uses for the humble peanut. American ingenuity and of course Sussex Co.

The return is the exposure, not the revenue. You know what our basketball contract (which includes a game or two on espn networks) pays us, right?

No, probably very little if any, very similar to football. This situation was a little different, they requested changing dates, no tv competition, etc. so I would have guessed a or a few ten(s) of thousands of dollars.

I believe we get about $400k annually from the A10 distribution for basketball. That includes games on ESPN networks, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, etc.
there is no nat'l market for fcs football. no markt=no money

That's the truth, unfortunately.

FYI, ESPNU averages about 33,000 viewers during the day. How much advertising dollar do you think folks are willing to pay to get to those 33,000 viewers?

VT, I live in Southampton and was in the peanut business for a number of years, where was your families' farm?
