Basketball expenses

Interesting - I wonder what they put into the bucket of expenses.

Would be good to compare as well to how many of these programs make a profit or break even. So Duke and Kentucky spending about 18-20 million, but do they turn a profit when all said and done? I am guessing they do, but what smaller schools - like UR, Davidson, St. Mary's, and even Yale - do these schools make a profit? Could they spend more and maybe get into that middle group with the big boys?

Spiderman, look at the 2 spartan helmets, both are near the center. How many are in the Tournament?
A 7, 10, and 16 seed? Couldn't see the 16 buried under the logos, lol.
Should the 10 be Cane U?

knew NSU was a 16 seed, so not the one in the middle!

There are 2 in the middle. It was questioned in the comments. Someone mentioned 2 Spartans.
I think the 10 seed is wrong...

Need to stop trying to analyze while working...

What I find interesting, is two mid majors close to us in spending , are two that I often mention as having success that we should aspire to - i.e. more frequent trips. St. Mary's and SDSU and I'll add Davidson and VCU - since 2005 (using Mooney starting point):
ST. Mary's - 7 NCAA's (and 7 NIT's)
SDSU - 10 NCAA's (and 4 NIT's)
Richmond - 3 NCAA's (and 3 NIT's)
Do not know VCU's expenses, but likely similar?
VCU - 11 ncaa (and 2 NIT)
Davidson - 8 NCAA's (and 5 NIT)

I know it is not easy, but this is the type of frequency I think is possible and should be expected for the RIchmond Spiders.

VCU did not make the NCAA tournament this year and therefor are not listed!! 😊

Duke's expenses will go down considerably next year because they won't be paying coach K.

Everyone's scholarship costs/cost of attendance differ, so this study is not exactly apples-to-apples. It would be interesting to see what schools spend AFTER scholarship/cost of attendance expenses.

haha, yes they are playing the Princeton offense tonight ironically, whether it is the old princeton offense, the new princeton offense, the hybrid princeton offense, or just the offense run by the school named princeton I have no idea, but it is in the NIT. Guessing the environment will not be as life altering as a 10 day trip to Europe :)

For the Princeton fans that attend it will. A 10 day trip to Albania...

Interesting that the only teams spending more than us are all P6 programs, except for San Diego St, Houston, and Memphis, all of whom play in multibid leagues.

Surprised to see Marquette and TCU spending so much relative to other P6 programs that presumably have bigger budgets/more successful programs.

Many of these schools play in far-flung conferences. Their travel costs must be enormous.

All I see is Davidson gets more out of their team with less money.
Norfolk St. is bottom left buried underneath Texas Southern.

Aren't these figures always questionable at best with no standard of what is actually accounted for?

Did we ever hear about any NIL money for Richmond players? Or any insight how our athletic department is treating NIL?

I imagine it becomes a little complicated with scholarships, as players first receive need based aid, then the athletic department picks up the rest in the form of a scholarship (and the need based aid would be affected by NIL).

Still think there is a great opportunity in Richmond for UofR players and NIL money.
