Probably no one. Stop the other four and he alone probably won't beat you.Who is going to stop Toppin?
Toppin is certainly not better than David Robinson.Who is going to stop Toppin?
Definitely got to get by LaSalle first to mean anything at all!!
I’d rotate Cayo, Burton, Sal, and maybe even Goose (until they start pounding him inside) on Toppin. It’s gotta be by committee, make him work for everything (constant fresh legs vs his tiring legs), and then help when needed (or gilyard’s patented blind side pick pocketing).Burton on Toppin.
Problem is the other guys on Dayton can ball as well. There 3 starting guards all shoot nearly 40% from 3 and average double digits. They all are super athletic as well, can get to the rack and finish strong. Crutcher is a fun player to watch. Mikesell can run the floor and also finish really well.I’d rotate Cayo, Burton, Sal, and maybe even Goose (until they start pounding him inside) on Toppin. I don’t know enough about the rest of the Dayton team, but I’d definitely rather be beaten by a random guy having a career night than Toppin. Make them do something they’re not used to doing.
Unfortunately, it's just not going to happen. Tarrant was a Marine DI, Mooney a wedding planner. Mason's Greene got 39 but not enough from everybody else to win. I still contend Toppin will get his, we just can't let the other 4 best us. And as stated above, we've got to shoot really well. But we better take care of LaSalle first.Tarrant's strategy on Robinson was to "physical" him. Brought folks off the bench to body up, shove, and foul him every time he touched the ball. We have the depth to do this with Toppin and believe we should. Make him uncomfortable. Knock him off stride.
Agreed, great strategy by Tarrant. I just can't see us bringing in Matt Grace and Sal and telling him physical up Obi Toppin. Grant avoids defensive contact like the plague most games. It's not who we are under Mooney. Our "cerebral" play is kind of the basketball opposite of tough physical play.Tarrant's strategy on Robinson was to "physical" him. We have to work to get Mikesell in foul trouble, St. Louis did it and he fouled out....Our secret weapon is that they think so too....by committee, it just might work....you will never know until you try. The job of some of our walkons role in this game is to frustrate Toppin, we have to get to his head, that is the key!!Problem is the other guys on Dayton can ball as well. Personally, I don't think we have anyone that can match up with Tobbin. He is gonna get his and probably some in awe dropping fashion. I think what we have to try and do and force them into a half court game and put a lot of pressure on the ball to try and deny the entry pass, which is often a lob for an alley oop dunk.
It is gonna be a tall order though. They are good, really good.
