AT Gwu

Obviously we don’t want to sign anyone who is unable to do the work and who then flunks out. And I get that we have fewer classes where we can hide players who can’t cut it academically. But there are only 13 roster spots. I have never understood why slipping one or two guys in who might not otherwise qualify is such a big deal, as long as they can handle the work.

Weren't we told that things 'loosened up' with Athletics Admissions when Queally/Hardt took over the Athletics Department?

I guess by the time we fix the Admissions issues, our facilities will be outdated and we'll need another upgrade on facilities before we can win. Take another spin on the merry-go-round.

I have been expressly told by those in the know that Admissions reserves room in each incoming class for athletes. Certainly this does not mean anyone can get in, but there is wide latitude to admit those individuals that the coaching staffs want for their programs.

Using academics as an excuse in my view is not legitimate. Maybe 5 years ago it was, but not now.

Yes, each coach has a small number of slots, but the floor for those varies and is still well above NCAA minimums. It's been the case for many, many years.

I'm skeptical of the claim that we've actually adjusted our standards much recently.

The good news is that the same coach will be here.

Back to GW: They have been playing with a lot of confidence lately, beating teams at the bottom of the conference (like us), getting hammered by the upper echelon teams. Everyone assumes that of our remaining games that this would be the easiest one to get, while true, I don't think this is a foregone conclusion we go up there and win last night.

I saw a team whose spirit was broken and basically quit against our arch rival last time out, so tonight will tell us a lot about where this team is mentally. We should go in and win pretty easily, if we don't though, I won't be surprised.

I think you can use anecdotal evidence as some barometer. When was the last recruit that we had some indication that academics were at the root of inadmission? I think Marquis Godwin who was a 2017 HS graduate. So 5 years now that academics have not surfaced as an issue. We aren't the NSA when it comes to keeping secrets on stuff like this.

First 5 minutes of this game should tell us a lot. GW just won 2 in a row and sits at 7-6, right next to us in standings, so they will see this as a big game to try and overtake us. Not to mention, they might have the easiest finishing schedule in the league (UR, Mason, Duquesne, Fordham). So I expect them to come out and looking to take it to us. UR coming off a 2nd half thrashing, will we come out with some fire and intensity to start - or are we still rattled from VCU game. And will the team stick together - or will we see a bunch of individual players trying to win the game on their own.

First 5 minutes - we will know our team's energy level and focus for this game.

No one wants us to drop down to VCU or URI academic levels. I think enough talent has been here the past few years. They just don’t get better once they get here.

Agreed, but I've counted like maybe 2 games all year, where we played a focused 40 minutes, so we might come out hot, but we know this team will more than likely allow GW to hang around because they simply can't stand prosperity. If we get up, that means Grant will try some of his no look passes, with maybe one of them finding the 3rd row and Gilly trying to hot dog a bit too. Our seniors simply can not buckle down and step on anyone's throat.

Agree - if we come out hot, I will feel better. But nothing changes how I feel about our 2nd half performances the last several years. I just sit there and wait for the scoring drought to start. We seem to have one every game, and usually in the 2nd half - dig a hole, climb back and make it close.

Good luck to the team tonight. Only 4 more regular season games. Let's try to finish strong. Go Spiders!

My prediction - Spiders win 88 - 76. Burton goes off for 24 points, and Grace comes off the bench and scores 12.

Point two. We’re playing a bad team 5 minutes legt in the half. We haven’t played any underclass bench players…..typical Mooney

We’re playing a high school team in a high school gym and we’re only up 4
I was going to say two D3 teams but you are correct. Not to mention the high school production team and horrible announcers. Three point shot on ESPN highlights? WTF?

Ok I’ll meet you half way….they are a decent high school team in a good high school gym

I don’t normally like bad mouthing players , but this is one pathetic effort.

Besides 2 vs URI, who are GW’s 5 A-10 wins?

Announcers say they bad against the Top half…
