As to Coach Rocco

We all know the man has done a good job. His record speaks for itself, so the question is why has the administration not renewed his contract? Are they incompetent? Is Coach upset about support or this situation regarding xxxxxx that has been going on for several years now with no conclusion that keeps a key player off the field? UR can't allow a fellow CAA program to outbid them. I was surprised last year that we lost assistants to JMU for less than 30k/year? That is one thing, but to loose a head coach with obvious success and new recruits in line for next year and a newly rebuilt winning tradition; if this happens, it signals a new assault on the football program.

These sentiments explain the situation very clearly. The adminstration's treatment of Broadus was the straw that broke the camel's back. The administration destroyed that guy's confidence and immeasurably hurt the team. Couple that with the loss of assistant coaches, because of a few dollars in salary, I can see why Rocco wants out. The same thing happened at the end of Jim Reid's tenure. The Cooper administration undermined Coach Reid's position as coach and would not pay his assistants. In his last year, Jim Reid was both the coach and offensive coordinator. About 1/3 of his assistants left in the last year. The same is happening now.

I got an idea. What does Gill make? We fire Gill make Rocco the AD/ football coach, give him the money to increase his pay or his coaches pay. (It's been done before with mixed results but let me finish) Keep Rocco as AD until Mooney's contract is up. Use some of the saving in hiring a better coach for less money to hire a new full time AD.... what do you think?

With regard to how much the Administration is committed to keeping Danny: I think it will be very telling if Gill doesn't travel with the football team to ND. We'll know if we see him at the WF Game...

When the board hired a cello player to be the University President, I was afraid of this sort thing
happening.
Have any of you filled out the "survey" the school sent out? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to
realize the direction that Dr. Crutcher thinks we should go.
Why do we have to go through this exercise over and over again. It started back in the days of Frank Jones, followed by Jim Reid and now Danny Rocco. So many people are proud of our football program whether they
attend games or not. I for one will stop making donations to the school. If they think there was a problem with donors like Bobby Ukrop, when they dropped soccer, wait until they let the football program go to pot.

When it fell apart for Jim Reid his teams won 9 games over 3 seasons. Rocco's team has won 9 games this season.

Too bad we can't get the Ghost of Clyde Biggers to come take over as our AD!

He had an interesting philosophy in football scheduling!

Hard to believe that on the 23rd of this month he will have "given up the ghost" 40 years ago!

I still love you. always have.

Another option Crutcher has established equity as a University goal... as opposed to equality. (equity same outcome...equality same opportunity) So he's decided that anyone who wants to play football will get all the extra, coaching, assistance they need until they can play football.

The bottom line is DR is considering this and it has to be more than the money. If he were going to the Big10 or SEC, we would all understand and pat him on the back. He got this program in really good shape fairly quickly, but it will go south just as quickly if we loose him to another CAA program that can't pay him much more. It would be a loud signal that UR doesn't support football. In Harrisonburg, they are trying to figure out how to go BCS and we are extremely competitive with them and you know UR hasn't cut the admission standards to get these recruits in. He deserves the credit and a raise or whatever reasonable accommodations UR can make for him. Miller wouldn't have lost him like this for sure.

Miller would have given him a 20-year contract for $22 million with no buyout...

sorry to say it like this, know some will cringe BUT, we need a guy like trump from the standpoint of not thinking small and the attitude of, we are going to get this done. we need people who know how to get things done, period. or if one reads, very highly recommended, Bruce Heilman's autobiography, when he came to our board for the first time to recommend a money raising plan and they said it was way too much and they were thinking way lower. he told them they had hired the wrong guy. think big and act, get it done.

Not sure where you are getting your definitions from, but "equity" does not mean "same outcome." Its pertinent definition here (meaning, not the financial "equity") according to Webster's is:
  1. a : justice according to natural law or right; specifically : freedom from bias or favoritism b : something that is equitable
The definition of "equitable" is:
1. having or exhibiting equity : dealing fairly and equally with all concerned <an equitable settlement of the dispute>

The university is proposing a framework that equal opportunities and freedom from bias or favoritism – not one that demands the same outcome for all students.

Read Heilman's autobio and several other books (2 actually) regarding the history of UR. I would take a Trump-like person in a heartbeat as our coach, especially with respect to developing a vision and thinking big. .
