2022-23 G League

Missed this a few days ago, but Blake is back with the Go-Go. Little rusty though...played 9 minutes on Monday and was 0-for-3 with a couple of turnovers.

Meanwhile, Gilly played 19 minutes off the bench tonight in a Hustle win with 7 points on 3-for-4 shooting plus three assists.

Grant started tonight...only had 8 points, but 7 boards and 3 assists. Also 3 turnover though.

SDJ back in the starting lineup for the Cruise, but another poor shooting night. Did have 5 assists though.

Blake was a DNP tonight.

Not a great shooting night for Gilly, but he did finish with 12 points, 13 assists, 5 boards, and 3 steals.

Grant with 25 minutes off the bench only shot 1-for-6 and was –20 in another Gold loss. He did have 6 boards and 4 assists though.

SDJ was one of the brighter spots in a rough shooting night for the Cruise, as he finished with 17 points.

The Gold and Cruise continue to struggle, both dropping games tonight.

Grant had a double-double tonight with 11 points and 13 boards, while also tossing in a couple of assists.

SDJ also managed a double-double with an efficient 16 points paired with 10 assists.

And Blake was waived by the Go-Go again a few days ago.

Gilly with 30 minutes off the bench tonight...bit of an off shooting night with just 7 points on 3-for-9 including 1-for-5 from deep, but 7 assists, 4 boards, and 4 steals. Did have 3 turnovers though.

He had a key steal and bucket late in OT, and then Vince Williams won it with a thunderous putback dunk.

Grant with 10 points, 6 assists, and 3 boards in yet another Gold loss tonight, while SDJ's shooting slump continued with a 3-for-10 night for 9 points, 3 assists, and a couple of steals off the bench.

Rough 1-for-8 shooting night for Gilly, but 11 more assists. He’s up to fourth in the G League in APG.

Just caught the end of the Hustle game tonight...Gilly with 14 on only 7 shots, plus 10 assists in a Hustle win. Team-high +20.

SDJ will be up next as the Cruise take on Ignite if anybody's up for some late-night ESPN2.

Another win for the Gold and Grant with a solid stat line of 10 points, 8 assists, and 7 boards.

And in a showdown of Spiders, the Hustle got the win over the Cruise. Gilly came off the bench and only had 2 points in limited minutes, but had four assists, a couple of boards, and even a block, and was +17. On the flip side, SDJ had 7 points on another rough shooting night and was -23 with four turnovers. Did pick up a couple of assists and steals though.

Quiet scoring night for Gilly with 0 points and just two shots, but he did have 8 assists, 4 boards, and a couple of steals in a Hustle win.

SDJ had 9 points and 9 assists in 20 minutes off the bench as the Cruise got nipped by the Go-Go.

Grant is beginning to play very well in the G league!

During their three game win streak, versatile F/C Grant Golden has averaged 16 points, 9+ rebounds, 7 assists, 1.3 steals, and +/- of nearly 16. All while hitting better then 58% of his FGs and 100% of his free throws.

Hustle squeaked by the Lakers tonight, 118–117 on three free throws with a fraction of a second left. Gilly off the bench tonight with 11 points on 7 shots plus 4 assists, 3 boards, and a couple of steals, with only one turnover. Was -13 though.

It was bring your dog night for the Hustle, so they pretended to have a dog tweet updates throughout the game.

Grant with 14 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists tonight as the Gold lost a close one.

SDJ had an efficient 10 points plus 3 assists and a steal (but 3 turnovers) in 20 minutes off the bench in a Cruise victory.

The key to G-League call ups I feel is injuries. Get some injuries on the NBA level, get a call up and show what you can do.

Later in the season - it might be call ups to look at younger guys, but this early in season, looking for noticeable injuries in NBA to get a call up. But both Grant and Gilyard seem to be putting themselves in good position.

Not only injuries, but if you get the call up, you need a couple lopsided games to happen either way so you will see some time on the court.

True. Call ups this early in the season are basically roster fillers. Maybe you show them something in practice/workouts, but in reality your right - only getting in the game because of lopsided score.

Later in the season, when some teams playoff fates are sealed, you might get minutes just because. But right now - you need some blowouts.

Golden playing better in the G League against better competition than he did here?
Better competition, but might not be better effort on a nightly basis. Think in NBA and G-League, you don't always get full effort all the time.

I haven't watched G-League games, but I assume those guys are busting their asses for a call-up.
they're getting $40,500 for the year in the G-League.
if you get called up, you're getting $5,820 PER DAY that you're on the NBA roster.

You would think - but I don't think that is always the case, especially on the defensive end. I think that is where most NBA players try to rest. Much harder to make to the league as a defensive specialist these days. You need to be able to score and shoot in todays game.

Grant with another solid outing, going for 15, 10, and 5 in a Gold win.

Gilly came off the bench again for 19 minutes and had 8 points, 5 assists, and a couple of steals.

Went to a D league game for first time a couple nights ago (Westchester Knicks v Cleveland) Will say, Grant would have been the most skilled big man on the court in this one by far. Looks like the Gold play Westchester (which is playing in Bridgeport CT) twice at the end or January, so will have to check one of those out.

skills were never going to hold Grant back. the NBA is full of freakishly athletic men, though.

Quieter scoring night for Grant tonight, but he still had 8 board, 5 assists, a couple of steals, and no turnovers to go with 4 points.

SDJ with 11 points and 3 assists off the bench tonight.

One of the Hustle games was on NBA tv or something a few weeks ago and I taped and watched. Gilly is perfectly suited for pros bc he's overly unselfish and other guys are happy to take all the shots. And while that mentality is great for his coach since Gilly is the consummate team guy, I still think to get any look at all he needs to put up points as well in the G league. Was one of my frustrations that he wasn't more selfish hunting his own shots - A10 tourney Gilly - all the time, while at UR. IMO team was best when he was at his best offensively.

Side note: I love the Hustle game jerseys but can't find them for sale, only lesser versions that aren't nearly as good. Am I a dummy? Anyone else see them out there?
