2021 Richmond Spiders Football - Countdown - Stony Brook

the last time we saw the Spiders in a full season they demonstrated they could win on the road in big CAA games against FCS Top 20 opponents...Maine and Delaware in 2019...they also defeated Elon on the road in the spring season...

the home stretch starts for UR on the road against the Seawolves who have owned us in the last two games on Long island...picked to finish 10th in the CAA, it's a rebuilding year for Stony B...this is one we must get if we are to get to five, or more, CAA wins...

our defensive front seven are featured in this Countdown Episode...I believe they are good enough to give us a chance to win any game...good luck guys!

We went into Lavalle as #2 after wins against UVA and Norfolk State in 2016.

We got our overconfident asses handed to us by SBU who ran the ball at will with jet sweeps after jet sweep.Our corners were being manhandled.SBU ran for 240 yds.

Homecoming in 2019 provided for a UR dominating win against SBU.

Jordan Gowins, Donald Liotine each ran for more than 100 yards, plus Gowins scored two TDs as the host #19 Seawolves beat Richmond, 36-10, on Sept. 22, 2018.

UR lost a tough one at home vs SBU in 2017 by 3pts.Shoulda,woulda,coulda…



The Seawolves were 1-3 last spring, but closed the year with a 21-7 victory over rival UAlbany to claim the Golden Apple. Stony Brook's offense will once again be guided by quarterback Tyquell Fields, who rolled up a school-record 2,809 yards of total offense during the 2019 season. Ty Son Lawton has rushed for 916 yards and 10 touchdowns over the past two seasons and he will run behind a formidable offensive line led by All-American Kyle Nunez.

Stony Brook has some veterans to replace on defense, but welcomes back seniors Casey Williams and Brandon Lopez up front. Linebacker Reidgee Dimanche was second on the team with 87 tackles in 2019. In the secondary, senior Akeal Lalaind topped the Seawolves with 24 stops in the spring. Mitchell Wright returns to handle the punting duties and Anthony Del Negro was able to block three kicks last spring on special teams.

IIRC, Kyle threw his first of 3 picks while driving for the potential tying TD at the end of the half. SB returned the 2nd half KO for a TD and we could never dig out of the hole caused by the 14-point swing. Kyle's INTs on the next couple of drives didn't help. Possibly his worst game as a starter.

I was there in person with a bunch of CT buddies.Embarrassment.We looked good for the 1st 8 mins.
Our defense was the most porous that I had seen in many,many years.We stunk on both sides of the ball.Long ferry ride back to Bridgeport that late afternoon.
