I know it's a long way away, and we might all be dead by then anyway at this rate, but what are we expecting from this team next year? Or maybe a better way of putting it is: What would make next year a success?

For me, I'd like to see at least an A10 regular or tournament title AND at least one win in the NCAAs.

That's my standard for a team that will be as experienced as any we've ever had. I really think the ceiling for this team is a top-15 (or better?) ranking come Selection Sunday, which would be amazing.

At least two of these three:
Finish the season in the top 25 of both polls.
Win the A10 regular season.
Win the A10 championship.

And both of these:
Seeded in the top half of the bracket.
Win at least one game in the NCAA tournament.

That sounds good to me. This looks like it could be one of our best team's ever, so it is very reasonable to expect a regular season or tourney title, and a win in the dance. Not sure about the top 15 ranking, maybe top 25, but who knows? We can control the other 3 things you mentioned. Can't really control the ranking.

Just thinking about the likelihood of us becoming a poor man's Dayton next year. I think we *could* have a year (in the ultimate best-case scenario) that isn't TOO far off from that, if everything goes right. Maybe something like 26-5 (16-2) with a some good OOC wins against top-50 opponents. That's probably the ceiling.

You guys do know this is the University Richmond Basketball board? Are we all together now? United Spiders can not lose.

This team is going to kick some major ass next year. I agree with the below.

Finish the season in the top 25 of both polls.
Win the A10 regular season.
Win the A10 championship.

And both of these:

All I care about is winning at least 1 game in NCAA. Don’t care if A10 regular season champs if we fall on our face in the dance.

If we truly think this senior class is the best we’ve ever had, than expectations have to be elite 8. Take it further than what has been done before.

Elite 8? Seriously? That would be great, and would love to see it, but expectations for it? So, this means we would consider a sweet 16 a let down? Come on.

It’s either the best class ever or it isn’t. My expectations were 1 win in the NCAAs. But if you and others are going to jam “best class ever” down my throat, that is the marker for me.

I haven't noticed anyone jamming best class ever down anyone's throat, but best can be defined in different ways so I guess it depends on how you view it. If you view it by how far a team goes, I guess I can't get on you for that, but I will disagree. We could be an 8 seed and beat the 9 and then beat the #1 team in the country to get to the sweet 16. If we lost in the sweet 16 after doing that, it would be awfully hard to not say best class ever just because they did not make the elite 8. But, all opinion and all good.

Anything less than our 5 seniors going 1-5 in the NBA draft will be a disappointment! If we’re going to have absurd expectations might as well go all out baby!

Well, I kind of get it. Mooney has crapped the bed monumentally the last 8 years, so we would expect at least one year of over achieving. Look at Dayton this year. I was one of the few that said pre-season this is by FAR the most talented team in the A10 (pat, pat) and predicted top 1 A10 finish. 4700 had no clue, as most others including national writers. NO CLUE. I said it, look up old threads. That said, I didn't predict them as a national top 10 or top 5 team. Grant did a great job and exceeded all expectations. Yes, Obi was great, but is a super super talent, but not a super great all around player - mostly dominated on his freakish combo of height and athleticism. Grant over achieved.
I follow SDSU. I thought if everything hits right this year, they can be a borderline top 25 team. They did not have an Obi Toppin talent. Yes, Malachi Flynn, but he is not a freak like Obi and predicted as a mid 2nd rounder by most predicters all season (maybe higher now). But Dutcher over acheived.

Mooney never overachieves, mostly achieves or underachieves. That is the problem and why folks are calling for best class over to "achieve" a top 15 finish. That is not crazy in this one and done world when you have 4 1000 point seniors. That should be expected. Let's just keep lowering expectations for average mOoneY.

At this point I am crossing my fingers and hoping that there even is a season next year. I have seen some estimates that infection rates will peak in the US in 6-9 months, and if they are correct there will be no college athletics next year, at least in the fall/winter. All colleges will move to teaching online for the fall semester if not the full year.

I have seen everything from peak in 45 days (Gov. Cuomo I think?) to predictions of 18 months for it to subside. Hard to tell the experts from the shills these days. Especially these "leading epidemiologists" out there with conflicting theories.

Sadly, this is my current expectation for 2020-21.

same concern here. can't see schools opening their doors until a vaccine is approved unless spread is magically contained.

Now sadly every thread degenerates into the coronavirus discussion. There is more to life than the coronavirus. This too shall pass. Anyone who claims to know the timetable is guessing. Pessimism and optimism need to be balanced.

Geez, 97 in Virginia have this Chinese virus. 1 in a 100,000. God help us if we stop the world for this crap every year.

I feel like as an Econ major from Richmond I should correct you to say that just from a statistical mindset this is incorrect. It is not 97 out of 8.5 million (Virginia population). That is now how sample sizes work. It is 97 out of the total amount of people in Virginia that have been tested for it. The amount of people tested would be the sample size. Otherwise what you provided is incorrect data and would be dismissed immediately as a statistic to be used.

Are you saying that it is incorrect to state that "if you haven't been tested, then you can't have it"?:D

As if your other comments did not prove enough, now you prove you are racist? Shame on you and people like you.

I'm sure I will be wrongly accused of "starting it", but can we please keep this a basketball thread?

Excuse me, dude!! Read post 23. Maybe it doesn't piss you off, but it pisses me off to read that. But, fine, I will edit it

You didn’t include the 468,000 illegal aliens in Virginia. Let’s use the real numbers.

Let’s get this back on track: I can’t wait for next year. Probably will invest in espn+ for the first time since I won’t be on campus to attend games

we had to invest in Disney+ with kids out of school for a month. Got the package with ESPN+ included. All I need now is actual sports!!!

ESPN+ went from the best $5 I spent a month to the easiest $5 to cut from the budget in the blink of an eye.
Off topic, but kudos to the NFL for giving away Game Pass for free for the next few months.

Thanks for the reminder..................

Pansies like VD4700 should be ashamed of themselves and people like them. Back in the old days we used a band aid or took an aspirin. We didn’t shut the country down for the sniffles.

And, back in the old days there was a lot more racism. I guess you would fit in well there.

Comparing this to the sniffles? Shows how uneducated you are. And, this line of thinking only makes it worse for everybody. But, obviously you don't care about anyone but yourself.
