but things were about to get even better for Spiders fans as this week we highlight the 2016 season...Richmond traveled to C-Ville to play the once proud Cavaliers in both teams season opener...
Coach Rocco was beginning his fifth season and was bringing back an experienced and confident team with plenty of stars at key positions on both sides of the ball...Richmond was expected to compete for a CAA Championship and its third straight FCS Playoff berth...everything was coming together for another stellar season...
on the other hand the Cavs were bringing a new coach, Bronco Mendenhall, with a new philosophy and new schemes to the opener...they may have still been in shock
Satchmo's Prologue from the Spider Gang archives mentions Coach Rocco's visible confidence going into this one...even Satchmo who had watched the Spiders get trounced regularly in C-Ville for years sounded a little confident a few days before the game...
the Cavs were still double digit favorites and Spiders fans were hoping for something that hadn't happened since 1946...
