the 2015 season represents week seven of the Spiders football-less 2020 Pandemic Season...so far we're doing pretty good at 6-0, 4-0 CAA...
2015 was also arguably Coach Danny Rocco's finest team, though an argument could be made for 2016 prior to Lauletta's injury...
our FCS quarterfinals match up against the Powerful 2nd seeded Redbirds was the reward for a slice of the CAA Championship and two consecutive wins over historic rival W&M...
I can't recall how big a favorite the Redbirds were, but it was more than a TD...they were tough on their home field and the game was played on a cold early December night...and of course they were members of the very tough Missouri Valley Conference...few gave the Spiders much chance to win...
but someone forgot to tell the coaching staff and they had plenty of talent to work with...it was Kyle Lauletta's first season as a UR starter, the RBs featured Jacobi Green who was having one of the finest seasons by a Spiders RB since Tim Hightower...the WRs were tremendous also with Diggs, Brown and others...the defense featured David Jones, Omar Howard and Andrew Clyde among others...
Richmond clearly traveled to Normal believing they could win...
Strangely, Satchmo did not produce his usual Prologue...I guess he was too excited by being in the FCS Playoff quarterfinals for the first time since 2009... instead he substituted a batch of highlights from the season to make sure the Redbirds knew what was headed for Normal, Illinois... he did not make the trip...however, Scooper and Ms. Diplomat hosted a tremendous Spider Gang watch party.
I hope that this series helps keep some of your UR football mojo alive...full team practice for the hoped for upcoming seasons started this week at The Brick House...
It's a long ways to spring and fall 2021 and anything can happen... let's hope good things happen.
