Alright y'all I think it's about time to get this whole Football thing going again. It's by far my favorite time of year and I'm ready for it to start right now. As usual it's a highly anticipated season for us and it's fun knowing you have a team capable of winning the whole thing going into the season.

I think we very well could win it all this year, I have a timer set to the exact start time of the game in Frisco and I'm planning on being there. If you look at what we have coming back there is a hell of a lot of reason for excitement. I love Laualetta as QB and I think he's the best we've had since Eric Ward. The backfield is LOADED with three guys that are capable of going for over 1,000. It will be very interesting to see who gets the most carries out of that group. I think losing Brown will be big but we have other capable receivers, TYler Wilkins is going to be our next great one. The two transfers at that position will also help out big time. I love the idea of our 4-2-5 defense. The offense I question a little just because I have not heard great things about Jeff DUrden as an OC (and don't even get me started on Bacot).

If you look at our competition in the CAA it's likely going to be just us and jmu at the top and maybe Villanova. The league isnt as good as it used to be and the biggest reason is QB play. I believe the biggest reason is and jmu are the two best teams is largely because we have the two best QB's in the league. Delaware will be a sleeper to watch because they are getting the best coach we have ever had in my opinion (still extremely pissed about that). Also they have a few really good backs and a very solid defense. If they just figure out the QB situation they will be very dangerous, possibly better than us. I would also look out for Towson, they lost their starting QB for most of last season, they were in a lot of really tight games but just win them. William and Mary could be solid too because they have a highly touted freshman who may get the QB job and he sounds like the next big star in our league.
However I still think we are the favorite along with jmu and our disappointment from how last year ended and how our player will be motivated by all the BS that happened in the offseason will drive us to win it all in Frisco.
Go Spiders!

I will agree with you that I am skeptical of the new offense/ our O-line play, however I still can't believe you are putting Rocco #1 in terms of all-time great UR football coaches.

Who was better..... Frank Jones, maybe but a different world.

Clawson could have been but didn't stay long enough.

i think looking at offensive results, Rocco was probably the best for in pressers he always referred to finding opponents defensive weaknesses.
But i think we have had better defenses under other coaches, such as Clawson who had Huesman running the D. Frankly I am excited to have
Durden due to his JMU offensives were pretty strong.

When Durden was with JMU, the Pukes won a national championship.

Rocco was a good coach for us, and with the outstanding vision at UD and the even better recruits allowed by UD standards, I am sure he will be even better there. That said, I am damn glad to have the architech of our 2008 championship defense as our head coach. The attitude (approach) change and acceptance of UR as UR (yep, warts and all), it is refreshing. It may not work out and I could eat crow down the line but I am firmly a Russ fan and very willing to say it was a good trade.

Have to agree with Wiz that UD admin's commitment to return to football excellence and easier admissions process should really benefit DR. Saw Hens just got unproven transfer (grad) from Appy State which might fill the biggest hole.

rocco will do very well there, maybe a nat championship and by sep, he will have 7 or 8 qbs to choose from, always did here.

Rocco is at the right place to compete for a National Championship year after year. The Hens are willing to pull out all the stops that we cannot or are unwilling to at UR, take your choice. It won't take him long to set the table.

As to a National Championship, it does not set up as well for us this year as last. Toughest games were home last year, but on the road this, new coaching staff, new defense with personnel not recruited to play it. Obviously, we have major FCS talent. Don't see a NC this year, but definitely a Top 10 team.

I don't care what anyone says, when we were fully healthy last year we were the best team in the nation at our level.

Just to play devil's advocate, by the end of the season pretty much ALL of the FCS teams are beaten up. If you're going to speculate just how good we would have been without having lost players to injuries; then to be fair you have to compare us to all of the other teams as if THEY hadn't lost any players either.

That's fair. It is hard to forget the way we looked and played in Chlottesville. If we looked and played anything like that team in December, we would've been in Frisco.

Well every team gets beaten up but I don't think most teams lose the amount of starters that we did this past season.

Thanks for the links @32counter

I believe Brandon and Alex will have all-conference seasons and have NFL opportunities. They are the established leaders of the defensive and offensive lines respectively and have provided stability during the coaching change. I look forward to hearing from Tafon Mainsah and hope Bob Black brings on a wild card like Will Geraghty, Justin Rubin, or Seyoum Settepani.

@MolivaManiac

I believe the transition from power lifting to more functional training will greatly benefit Brandon's chances of staying healthy. If he can steer clear of freak injuries (broken jaw), he will post double digit sack numbers as a true defensive end in 4-2-5 scheme.

^^Thanks for the update. I'm not surprised with some attrition considering staff and system change. Blake is the only one that surprises me here. Perhaps just a matter of being down the depth chart with other young guys ahead of him.

I wonder if Clise could look to finish at Delaware. Their qb position has been a mess. They did get a kid from App State but could probably use some quality depth.

Highly touted Timothy Coleman,Furman transfer, plays next year as a RSo likely added to Logan opting out.

Clise, having graduated in May,would have been #4 on the QB depth chart.

Iamunno's ACL rehabilitation could have been a real detriment in his ability to play.He was a sideline observer even during Spring.Thought the kid had great potential-out of St Thomas Aquainas Miami.

TJ Dunn, out of Benedictine, was likely to get very little playing time. Not even sure that he was even scholar-shipped.

I agree with all of that. I do believe Dunn was on scholarship to play that bandit/rover position, which really doesn't exist in the Huesman defense. Linebackers play more 'downhill' now. I don't think TJ really had a position to play here, given the new system.

Right but he's still on the team. Common to list sit out guys on rosters. Figured paperwork with being a little later transfer but idk. Just pointing out, hopefully nothing to see here.
