The Spiders move into game three of the Pandemic Season with good momentum (2-0, 1-0 CAA) after two dramatic and historic wins. As most Richmond fans will remember the 2011 season turned out to be a surprising disappointment, but this week's highlighted game, the season opener versus the ACC/BCS Blue Devils was a powerful start.
"Interim Head Coach" Wayne Lineburg had taken over for Latrelle Scott just weeks before the season started, but there were reasons for optimism in 2011. QB Aron Corp was healthy again. Offensive skill position players Kendall Gaskins and Tre Grey were back as was most of the offensive line. On the defensive side the DL was solid and Georgia Tech transfer Cooper Taylor was ready for his Richmond debut.
Duke, led by David Cutcliffe, had lost two in a row (2006 & 2009) to the Spiders, but was the usual heavy favorite in this FCS/BCS match up.
Ha! The Blue Devils have not scheduled Richmond since this game and I doubt they ever will again.
A "youthful Satchmo" frames up the game in the Prologue.
I hope you enjoy it again.
Go Spiders!
