When the UR Womens Lax team went on Covid pause yesterday, there was going to be an obvious domino effect.

Elon going on Covid pause 2 days ago after just playing them was a leading indicator of bad things to happen.

Extremely doubtful that our game with Tribe next weekend happens.

Tribe on bye week now because their game with Elon for this weekend postponed.

JMU game next weekend with Elon won’t be played as well.

It is very likely we finish the Spring at 3-0 and 15th ranked.

JMU will stand at 4-0,2-0.

As it stands now UR would be declared the South Division winner and not go to theFCS playoffs.

JMU,UD would be the CAA reps.in the playoffs.

JMU is likely desperately probably looking for someone to play from the North division on 4/10 or 4/17 in order to get to 3 CAA wins.

Why would jmu get the nod with 2 division wins???

Being on pause(UR) for 2 weeks without practice would be quite different than having 2.5 weeks of BYE(JMU) with practice.April 17 tilt ain’t gonna happen for that reason..

I would guess (but do not know all the details obviously) the outbreak on our team will blow up in the next two or three days. Elon went out Monday after we played them Saturday. Our positives likely showed up with the Wednesday test results five days after game. Our guys have now been together for five days not knowing they had it, thus spreading around to each other.
If that is the case, JMU might can take our date April 10 with William and Mary and get in their third CAA game.

I would then think April 17th could be a one and done for JMU and Spiders, depending on how many of our guys kept testing negative for the next week and might could practice. Not knowing the contact tracing issues though, we might have whole position groups test positive and not be able to practice but a day or two before game would be played and that would likely be unacceptable from a possible injury stand point, not to mention the ground dragging JMU would likely put on us.

We had 18 Spring practice days leading up to 3 games.Almost exactly what Russ wanted in the 1st place.

We are also banged up on the OL and RB positions.Plenty of ACL repairs.

It seems like those two position groups have been injury plagued forever. At least we got those 18 practices in this Spring and a lot of young guys got valuable game reps/film. Defense in particular should enter next Fall with confidence.

I love this rivalry! I don’t love it as much as I used to because we don’t put the effort into football that jmu does and we unfortunately see the results of that. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood are of seeing UR and jmu going at it on the field with very high stakes and seeing UR win a good many of those games. Those games were absolute wars and often had the conference title and playoff seeding on the line. UR and jmu has been the best football rivalry in the state over the last 20 years because it simply means more. It may not be at the biggest level like Tech and uva but that series is as one sided as it gets, my fear is that this rivalry will get there if we keep falling behind. How fitting is it though that in as weird a year as this that we get UR vs jmu for the CAA title? The dukes have looked beatable at times and I would love nothing more than to see us rise to the occasion and get this one done. This rivalry has been crazy and weird in the past with the road team having an odd pattern of success. Bring it home men, that’s all we ask.
