Richmond 65 St. Bonaventure 54 - Were You Expecting That?

I certainly wasn't...after two lethargic performances against outmanned opponents I didn't know what to expect against the red hot Bonnies who had just demolished the Rams down on Broad Street...after all, St. Bonaventure's tough, physical style of play had given the Spiders fits for years...

but the team apparently hit the reset and refresh button during their bye week...the energy, toughness and execution yesterday was more than the Bonnies could handle as the Spiders played chest to chest defense and made the hustle plays necessary to win on both ends of the court...

what can you say about Isaiah Bigelow except wow!...long time Spiders fans surely noticed how badly he wanted every missed shot on both ends of the court...technique is important, but quite often rebounds are decided by who wants it the most...Bigelow wanted it yesterday from the opening tap...

still struggling from three point range, it was impressive to see the Spiders take the ball to the basket to win this one inside....Dji Bailey took a physical pounding, but never stopped attacking the rim along with Bigelow, Quinn, Walz and King...when the game was still on the line in the final minutes the Spiders showed their mental toughness too...after struggling at the FT line earlier in the game King, Bailey and Bigelow made 11/12 FTs in the final minutes to seal the win....well done!

now, was this a one off afternoon, or can the Spiders take it to Chicago and break through on the road?...

2023 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponent's Countdown - North Carolina A&T

the Aggies aren't like the other CAA newcomers...they have a long storied history of football success...they've appeared in the FCS playoffs five times...during the Rod Broadway era they won four Celebration Bowls in five seasons (2015-2019)...and more importantly they brought in a new coach who knows what it takes to win in the CAA, Vincent Brown...

Brown worked at Richmond for former UR Coach Mike London and with current Head Coach Russ Huesman during the 2008 National Championship season and the following 2009 season...the last four seasons Brown has helped London build W&M into a CAA Champion...

on CAA Media Day Coach Brown sounded like a confident and optimistic man when he spoke of his team as knowing how to win...A&T finished 2nd in the Big South last year at 7-4...Brown says his staff will focus on identifying his player's strengths and figuring out how to leverage those...the CAA Media poll predicts a 10th place finish for the Aggies

NC A&T lost a lot from the 2022 squad through graduation and the Transfer Portal...Brown likes his incoming freshman and the players he picked up from the Portal...he's looking for a QB and RB to rebuild his offense and is returning only three starters on the defensive side...

I expect Truist Stadium in Greensboro to provide NC A&T a significant home field advantage...and the Brown led Aggies to over achieve, especially at home...anything can happen for both teams between now and October 21, but the Spiders better be ready for a battle...

enjoy the Countdown...

OT: FSU suing ACC

FSU continuing its temper-tantrum mode by suing the ACC claiming the $130M exit fee that IT AGREED to is illegal. First it was upset at the NCAA, now the ACC. A clear case of "I didn't get my way, so now I'm pissed off at everyone and am going to act like a child."

Hey FSU: Your QB got hurt. It sucks for you, but that's life. Suing the ACC isn't changing that. If he didn't get hurt, you would be in the playoff and this lawsuit wouldn't be happening.

How Would You Market Richmond Spiders Football Tickets?

I agree with 32 that the marketing of Richmond football tickets seems very conventional, unlikely to get the attention of anybody other than diehard fans and lacks passion/emotion. It seems like we ought to be building on last season's CAA Championship battle and FCS Playoff appearance.

The dog days of summer are slowly winding down so why not have some fun sharing how you would market Richmond football season tickets and/or single game tickets.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if the UR AD Marketing arm has ticket sales goals, how many folks work on sales and what their budget might be. It should also be noted, and it will probably be obvious, that I have no background in sales, or marketing of anything. I'm just a diehard Spiders football fan who'd like to see more fans at The Brickhouse.

Here's one video/audio sales pitch: An attention grabbing and convincing male, and/or female voice narrates against a background of Spiders highlights. "There are 1.3 million people living in the Richmond metro area. There can be no doubt that tens of thousands are college football fans. Only one place in the central Virginia area will host D-1 football this season, The Brick House, Robins Stadium, at The University of Richmond. Scratch your football itch this fall as the 2022 FCS Playoff Richmond Spiders battle for another CAA Championship and Playoff spot on six fall afternoons."

For years this board has laughed about folks in the AD reading the board and then taking action. If you've got some marketing ideas, throw them out there. It'll help pass the time till preseason practice begins. :D

Game Day: Richmond vs Chattanooga

Good luck today, ladies!

Great game yesterday against NET #15 Michigan State despite the final outcome of 83-76. Besides the Spartans 2 losses, this was by far their closest win. Next closest was 24 points and only 3 of their victories were "only" in the 20s for margin of victory.

Today's game will be another challenge against 11-2 Chattanooga. They are coming off a disappointing loss yesterday, so let's be ready! They've had a fair number of close games, but also have a victory over #21 Mississippi State.

Bounce back quickly, ladies! Get a good win here!

PR excludes Tom Elia from All CAA listing

UR football PR excludes Tom Elia from the All CAA listing.12 UR players are listed
but there should be 13,including Tom Elia who made 3rd team.

Nothing has changed in the group.Incompetence and lack of QC has been prevalent for years.
