Charlotte Game (and travel) thread - Wed 11/13 7pm ESPN+

I never understood the faith people had in Walz and Tanner. Walz was a 6’10” player in a league of 6’4” centers in high school and still averaged fewer than 10 points a game. Why did people think he would suddenly be an offensive threat? Tanner didn’t really play last year so not sure where the faith came from. Like I said in a different post, I thought the incoming freshmen would be good, but if they can’t play on this team, then that’s a clear sign that they aren’t.
They are choosing to redshirt. That is way different than "can't play on this team."

There's lots to criticize about this team and the coaching this year. We don't need to manufacture other stuff.

Not saying because of rankings. I am saying because we kept hearing in the off season he was a great shooter who was making a bunch of 3s. We are 25-96 (26%) from 3 as a team. Our offense looks terrible and we have 3 straight ugly losses. Tyne, Tanner, and White are giving us very little. We are in the meaningless OOC stage right now. I know coaches know their teams way better than we do, but I say give him some minutes and find out.
So, I am no Moon fan, but I will defend him here. You can't just give a guy minutes because the team stinks so far. You earn minutes. If it was really close between him and someone else for the minutes and that person has performed worse in the games than he does in practice, then yes, maybe I'd do this too see if someone was a better "game guy" but if he is sitting because he hasn't learned the offense, doesn't play D or a hundred other reasons that it could be, I cant just play him because he is supposedly a good shooter and my other guys haven't shot well yet. And we have to assume that there are reasons he is buried right now. Coaches just aren't in the habit of burying guys for no reason and players have to earn their way back up the ladder, not just be gifted the minutes basically out of desperation in the moment.

We have a very good football program

Three straight playoff appearances, two straight conference championships and a 20-3 CAA record with a 13 game CAA win streak speaks volumes about our football program. Some will say we play at a FCS level in a watered down league but the product we put on the field is something every fan should appreciate. Congratulations to our coaches and players for representing what a winning culture looks like no matter what obstacles are put in their path.
The only other FCS programs to win at least nine games each of the last three seasons are North Dakota State and South Dakota State. Those are very good programs to be associated. No one else in the conference has more than 16 conference wins in the regular season in the last three years. As you pointed out, UR has 20. The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit. The team deserves a lot of support. I hope there is a large and loud UR crowd on Saturday. It looks like it will be near perfect football weather.

Opening Night Lineup - Just for fun

According to Evan Miya, Tyne has the 3rd worst offensive performance rating (OBPR) of all A10 players who have played at least 50 possessions this season.

More troubling, under those same metrics our first player does not appear until #77, Beagle.

Many other teams have 2-3 players in the top 20.

Opening Night Lineup - Just for fun

I am concerned the most about Tanner and Tyne. Most of the others are shooters who are just not making shots right now. Tanner has the 3rd most minutes, but has very little to show for it, and has only 1 assist with 6 turnovers. Tyne has the 2nd most minutes, is 4-16 from 3, and has 3 assists with 7 turnovers. Both are starting and getting good minutes, but just not making a positive impact right now.

Bigger problem will be - can we keep Roussell. Assume they have another good year, and make it back to the NCAA tourney - that will be back to back trips and his name will have to be up there for open jobs. Then you look at the roster - he potentially has some pieces returning in Ulstrom and Doogan, but he will lose Hill, Budnik, and Camden.
our AD has probably forgotten that it is even a possibility that a bigger conference can come in and swipe your coach

if a coaching staff sees a guy 5-6 days a week for 5+ months, I'll assume they know where he stands right now.
I'm not playing him over other guys based on high school rankings.

If he is not in the rotation based on a few months of practice and you start off looking good and winning, then all good, but when we are playing like this a few games in, if he is healthy, I think we have to give a guy who has a great shooter reputation like that some minutes.
