Stubbornness, Huesman is doubling down.
First off hope everyone here has had a wonderful summer so far!!! Of course popping in here seeing the schedule is first priority.Men's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule - University of Richmond Athletics

Probably a fair ranking. I bet if were to average our NET over the past 18 years, it would probably be in the 90's.Hate these Busting Brackets formats (having to page through lists). This ranks Mooney no. 97.
NCAA Basketball: Ranking all 364 D-I head coaches for 2024-25 season

not saying the 4 has to be a Kevin McHale, but most still distinguish between the 3 and the 4. In fact, Blue Ribbon's Richmond preview is all based on conversations and quotes from Mooney, says "Mooney likes the long term potential of 6'8" freshman Bryson McGlothin and 6'6" freshman Jaylen Robinson. McGlothin has great length, and while thin, projects as a capable small forward, while Robinson is an excellent leaper with quickness who is likely to settle in as a four at the college level".Now u just made me get into a position numbers debate with you again....teams don't really play a "4" anymore.
they do.Why would we limit ourselves with your lineup necessities when other teams don't do that?
they could. it's one of the options I don't really like much, but I mentioned it. I don't love those 2 bigs together because neither is a threat outside, but maybe it works if Beagle is a good ball handler. maybe I'm just hopeful the other big forward types (Dusan and AP) are so good we don't decide to have a 5 playing forward. Why couldn't Dusan, Beagle, and Walz play together?
those groups certaintly fit together. doesn't matter which one is the 3 or the 4. I probably wasn't clear. I think we all expect Dusan is a starting forward. I don't care which spot. not sure if Dusan or AP is more able to defend a bigger forward or a quicker forward. If Dusan, AP, and Walz, or Dusan, AP, and Beagle play together, who cares who is the so called 3 or the so called 4?
we measured both at 6'8". play them where they match up better. And, why say Dusan is a "4" (whatever that means anymore) when he has never averaged more than 4 rebounds a game? He was 42-99 (42.4%) and 49-135 (36.3%) from the 3 the past 2 seasons. Yet, you would play AP over him at the "3" just because he might be 1 inch taller than AP?
same answer. Dusan can certainly play the 3 if we're playing 2 bigs. I just hope we don't.Back to your original post about Roche, AP, or Tanner having to play the 3, why couldn't Dusan play with 3 guards and either Walz or Beagle?
not saying they add up to 40 minutes. Roche could play minutes at the 2, but I think we have better guard options there. AP could play 4 and Dusan 3. those 2 are likely interchangeable.I'm mainly saying, while I hope Tanner, Roche, and AP will all be huge factors for us, I hope the coaching staff is not limiting our lineup possibilities like you are by saying Tanner, Roche, and AP will combine for 40 minutes each game and never play together. Maybe I am reading you wrong, but when you say you only have those 3 penciled in at the 3, it seems like you are doing exactly that.
Agree with all of this. I look at what the Flying Squirrels have done to draw fans. No one gives a rat's a** who wins a Flying Squirrels game but they turn out the fans because they make it a great experience for fans to want to be at and they promote themselves extremely well. Same with the Richmond Kickers, who coincidentally play at our old stadium. The Richmond Ivy are new and different. New and different can be pretty exciting.
Everything about our program is dull.
Administration keeps handing out contract extensions like candy so they seem to endorse all of the above. There's little point in fighting any of it because nothing will change. And there are too many other fun things to do on fall weekends in RVA.
- Dull administration.
- Dull level of football where traditional rivals have left for greener pastures.
- Dull gameday experience.
- Dull scheme with running the quarterback as the primary option.
- Dull, meandering interviews
- Same ole' voices calling the action.
I don't see how the tide is stemmed unless Huesman retires and we hire a really compelling replacement. That may be another decade from now.
The irony is that UR is in a great position to hire the next Chip Kelly or Dave Clawson. So many young, innovative coaches come thru the FCS ranks. Problem is that if the coach was successful our AD would have to actually work and hire a new coach (Amazing how that seems to have worked out for JMU football and VCU basketball). Instead of being ambitious and taking a chance at something great we settle for easy, predictable, and safe. Same approach applies to the marketing of our program. I'm beyond apathetic at this point because we are much more likely to go down to D III or eliminate football completely than to institute any real ambitious changes. The game days have basically become a minor league baseball game with slim attendance, no students, the occasional parents using the afternoon for child entertainment, and nobody seeming to care about the final score as long as we participated/competed in an event.Outside the box thought here. Fontel Mines. RVA ties, man can recruit. Hasnt been a coordinator, but sure he has connections to make a good hire. Recruited so many of Roccos top players.
So it's spacey vs solid? /sFirst, let me say that I'm sorry that I have essentially the same username as you. When I signed up I did not know you had this username, and apparently the site allowed me to essentially have the same name as you because I put spaces between the words.
Back on topic, I think we will be pleasantly surprised with the scoring and passing ability of Beagle and Walz. And hopefully Mooney will turn them both loose to rebound, I believe both of them have the ability to be better rebounders than Quinn and Grant.
Republicans' good, Democrats bad. I'm shocked the Republican House members reported it was all Biden's error. /sWell done Joe.
My good old days don't go as far back as you, but I hear you...Our tailgate crew has been to almost every home game and quite a few road games over the past 25 or so years. We were just joking about being admonished by Aaron Corp's dad on the hotel shuttle to Duke about the hard "P." I was like sorry sir, I thought it was pronounced like the Marine Corp...he was upset, but probably less so from his son losing the starting QB job to the butt fumble guy. Those were the exciting days where "any given Saturday" we might come out with a win regardless of who we're playing.I feel lucky to have been a student during our hayday years, playing P5 schools, beating Tech in the rain, Barry Redden, Walker Gillette, Barty Smith, Tangerine Bowl win....and later, being there in Chattanooga in 2008 in the middle of a 17 game win streak.
I'll go ahead and say it...The good ole days. Sorry that you young guys missed out on all that because Richmond football will never see that again.
Starts with our milk toast administration. It's all their fault for not giving a damn about sports.
I’m glad to see we’re loading up on players-period!Pitching was a challenge last season. Glad to see we have been loading up on pitchers.
Except North Carolina, Where they didn’t have to go to class. The academic standards are a self-inflicted handcuff. The NCAA doesn't make us have these high standards. The A10 doesn't make us have them. We do this to ourselves - and since that is the case, you can't use it as an excuse when you don't get a recruit. I, like many on this board - went to UR many many many years ago. Is it a tough school - sure it is. But can just an okay athletes get by - of course they can, with the right support. Its not rocket science at any college. Go to class. Do the homework. Do the projects. Act interested and ask questions. Get to know your teacher a little bit. And even if you fail the tests - the teacher will likely give you a C. Cause they feel like you are putting in the the effort and time. I am not saying we take "Prop48" type kids, but outside of that - we should be taking any basketball player we can get.

I'm hoping Beagle is just that. And i'm hopeful Walz can step up but not holding my breath.
