2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Charleston Southern

I do see Donovan Hoilette listed at DE. II accurate this is good to see. His injury during the game did not look good as he was assisted from the field.
Unfortunately I believe Hoilette remaining in the two deep was a sloppy oversight by whoever updates it weekly. Huesman said Monday he was finished for the season and reiterated that again today in the local media session.

Ha, any chance Foster-Powell’s absence on the “two deep” was another oversight. Huesman was not asked about it in today’s media session.

If you're going to have a padded chain-link fence - much safer than a brick wall, I agree - then you need to put some advertising on the padding. Oregon State does this and it's a healthy boost to the budget (see link below).

Glad to see more institutional investment in baseball. Hallock said he would do this and he is living up to his promise.

2024–25 schedule

Did a little more digging...

All of this is assuming games listed on D1Docket's tracker are indeed happening.

Even though Cornell's official schedule only has 6 OOC games listed, D1Docket is tracking 26 games confirmed for them so far, so they're definitely not doing an MTE.

Saint Peter's has 25 games tracked, so they could still add an MTE. HOWEVER, they are currently scheduled to play at Fairleigh Dickinson on 11/26 in the middle of our MTE.

The Citadel has 25 games on D1Docket, and nothing currently listed as conflicting with our MTE.

Lehigh has 26 games on D1Docket, but are scheduled to play at Saint Francis on 11/26.

Delaware State has 27 games tracked and nothing between Mount St. Mary's on 11/23 and Texas on 11/29, so they're a possibility.

Dartmouth has 24 games tracked and nothing between Marist on 11/19 and BC on 11/29, though they have Le Moyne as a TBA.

So, it looks like the only true possibilities are The Citadel, Delaware State, and Dartmouth. Saint Peter's and Lehigh would need to move previously reported game dates to do it.

Zach Chu to the Pacers

I think in college - analytics could be very useful for in game strategy. Remember - these are not professional athletes, so if you had someone run the analytics on just a few players, where do they take the bulk of their shots, 1-2 dribbles - where does the other team like to start their offensive sets from, etc - you could really use to a good advantage. I think at a pro level - its get blown out of proportion because those guys are so good - they can play around the analytics at some point. Not to mention, they get the same data too - so they know what to expect. But at a college level - I think if used correctly - could have a big impact.

Totally agree - I understand why they're removing the brick pillar fencing, but it's definitely going to be a visual downgrade.
I guess they could have just replaced with a solid brick wall? But not sure how that would look. They have made good improvements over the years - now they just need the lights! Night games would be awesome. And this fear by the neighboring houses it will be too loud - really? Have you been to a football game or baseball game - I don't think you need to worry about that.

Pitt Field upgrades this offseason: all-new turf, new fence padding, expanded home bullpen, new hitting simulator. Kinda sad to see the classy brick and wrought iron fencing along the bullpens replaced with chainlink and padding, but I get why they did it.

2024–25 schedule

The Ivy League indeed has a lower limit of 27 games, with or without an MTE, so Harvard is definitely out. Given there is no extra-games benefit of being in an MTE for Ivy schools, many opt to skip participating. But sometimes they do, whether it's for ease of scheduling several games in one convenient location or for access to opponents, etc. For example, Brown is hosting a 3-game MTE with UNH, Holy Cross, and Sacred Heart.

Silas Barksdale - 2025 Offer

Am I the only one that wonders what VCU has to offer over Richmond, and frankly some
other programs like Miami and Butler?
From a purely basketball (which is what the majority of these players are going to school for) standpoint, easy academics, large fanbase that is engaged when winning, urban campus where people are constantly adulating, school pride (albeit obnoxious), big games to play in. RVA>Indianapolois. And the city of Miami doesn't care about college basketball like they do here.

I hate VCU with every fiber of my being and would love to see it turn to dust, but they get that basketball can be a catalyst for a university as opposed to a liability in our instance. VT isn't what it is today without Beamer/Vick, VCU isn't what they are today without that F4 (or buying up all the city government). Didn't our academic profile shootup immensely shortly after all of our NCAA runs in the 90s? Wonder how that happened.....? I certainly do not recall UR having the academic requirements of today before being "Giant Killers". VCU has their problems, but its not basketball. Which is why the majority of us on on this board.

U of R is absolutely terrified of being great at both school and sports. They feel they are mutually exclusive agendas, despite evidence that schools like Duke, Wake, NW, etc do just fine with it.

Spiders Collective-Season Preview-Oct 4

Spider17... My purpose of the post is not to get a debate, but to inform. Here are some comments on your bullets.

Coming up with the concept of the Partner level (which is $10k and up) got us quickly to where we needed to be. It’s safe to say that it’s been successful, co player of the year, regular season champs and a really strong Portal Class this year.

FYI—you don’t have to give $10k. You can go to spidersnil.com and donate. We have gotten everything from $100 donations to $2500. The reason for their donations was not for a decal or t-shirt, it was to support the Nil which is crucial to the success of the program.

We decided on doing this event 1. ) Raise awareness and 2.) raise money and 3) give a sneak preview on season. We’re hoping to secure a corporate sponsor to help us cover our expenses for the evening (anyone local interested?)

As far as NIL store, from what I understand, in principle they look good, but how much money are they bringing in (which is the goal) for both player and Collective ? Our GM, who works with P4 schools much bigger than Richmond, has confirmed this. If you know something different, please let us know.

As far as different sports, yes, this was set up w/ Mens basketball, based on the interest level. The infrastructure is in place to add other sports and have same team manage if there is interest.

I will agree website could be updated. There has been an update, which allows you to buy tickets to this event .

Local businesses interest. We had a local medical device company shoot a Linkedin video w/ NQ last year and we have a couple of that are interested in doing stuff this year.

Your last point about getting athletic department involved is a good one. For example, NIL gifts (unless you are a business and use a player for a commercial for example-which then becomes a marketing expense) are not tax-deductible for individuals at this time. Although Virginia law may allow it, the NCAA rules are still influx. The “House” settlement was just sent back to the plaint/defend to re-look at their settlement. Will there be a day that NIL contributions become Richmond donations? Most likely, but that day is not yet here.

Spider17, if you’re not local and can’t attend and want to make at least a $200 donation, we will get you a tumbler!! Make a donation and Send your info to richmondspidercollective@gmail.com and we will get it shipped out.
Thank you for your very thoughtful response, I really appreciate it! My post was not intended to be a critique or debate but rather highlighting some thoughts I had that may be helpful. You all certainly have considered a lot and it’s evident by the strong NIL we have so far. It’s great that we are able to have this in place and I’m excited to see how it grows over the years!
