Great work Mojo. Bring on the Pirates.
Yeah, he headed to D-II Nova Southeastern. Still helps run the Big Shots family business.did Bryce Schneider transfer out of D1? Seemed like a good guy, remember him posting congrats to the guys he came in with after the NCAA tourney win in 2022.
I did not take offense to that at all, I found it quite funny lolidk think around same time u took offense to my Fax joke & the Bucknell 5-1 deal!
I guess it’s what you consider as “expect more”. When you think of all the coaches who have been in one program for 20 years (or at least a very long time), they’re like coach K, Jim Boheim, Roy Williams, Jay Wright, Tommy Bennett, they’ve all won national championships. Do I expect the same for Mooney because he has been here that long and are my expectations exponential in the sense that I expect NCAA year 1 of Mooney, Sweet 16 year 5, Final Four year 15, and National Championship year 20? No I do not and I’m sure we all can agreed that is not realistic (as much as I would love that). Now, I agree that we should be winning championships/making NCAAs at a more consistent basis and I don’t think a poor performance this season takes away from the accomplishments of the past 5 seasons: notably winning COY and A10 regular season last year. I’m not making an excuse here or saying that I’ll be happy going 8-22 this year and pretend that it’s okay, but I do also recognize that down years happen. We’re only 3 games in the season though and I still want to be optimistic.do u not think we can expect more out of long term coach in 1 spot...shouldn't there be a benefit such as more regular Ncaa?
I agree with longer tenure means more experience and more experience (should) lead to better things like scheduling, easier ability to recruit players that fit system, but like I’ve said many times before the college landscape is changing. Scheduling is becoming even harder to do for everybody and while I think UR benefits greatly from the transfer portal era, one downside is that we don’t know how all the individual talent we can get will gel together, even with earlier summer practices. Yes, a more experience coach should ease that transition quickly, but there are a lot of other factors too.I figured Mooney at year 20 is a better, more experienced coach, better recruiting, more connections for scheduling, all leading to better performance.
If you don’t like us saying this then fine, totally your right to do so. But in my opinion, I don’t think one can have problem with us not being vocal enough and public with our expectations and standards for ourselves (like many have praised the VCU AD for doing so) and then also having a problem when we make a claim of confidence saying we’re a top team in a country - claiming that it is hyperbolic and out of touch with reality.Yet they will tell us we're 1 of the top basketball programs in the nation! It's like that saying...don't piss on someone's leg and tell them it's raining
I feel your pain. It got so bad for me that I stopped attending live basketball games. I do watch the TV games but find myself laughing out loud at the predictably of what's about to happen. I'm way over Mooney and Richmond basketball. Football, lacrosse and now baseball along with most women's sports keeps my interest.Moon might be embarrassed by the schedule, but he should be more embarrassed losing to teams we should be beating. I’ve been supporting the team 50 years, am a season ticket holder, but just truly burnt out by Mooney. It’s beyond time to have moved on. For the first time in 50 years, I turned off the game at halftime. I do hope the fellas get it together, but the buck stops at the top…extensions and rewards be damned. We can and should be better.

No need for Moon to worry, he's lifetime coach. Better to lose against good national teams than the dregs too. But the biggest thing is you set a precedent u set a culture with schedule. And u get connections for future, maybe u get into a 2 for 1 deal for instance. So if we did do that it's actually hurting u for future when u do have a team that can win.
We went 8-22 in his second season, '06-'07.
See, top half is not great in our conference. It's OK. But then again Hardt and PQ and crew have a lot lower expectations for their good buddy and his team.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but when did I say that? I remember having this conversation a few months ago (my mind is a little hazy on exactly what was said) but I remember making a comment that my expectations for Mooney have and always been NCAA appearances whether that is year 1 or year 20. I gave more leeway the beginning years as he implemented his system and also recognized that years we didn’t make NCAAs weren’t automatically a failure.
But to turn it back to now, obviously this is not a good start for us at all. It’s very disappointing because losing these two games have knocked the wind out of our sails for at least the hope of an at-large. But we’re 3 games into the season and there is a lot left to play. I still believe we have the talent on this roster to surprise people and be a top half conference team. However, a lot of work is needed to get there.
This is what's frustrating. Hell, we extended him when we did not have an AD. Zero pressure to win. Which I don't agree with since you are getting around $1.5 million per year.Good points and can't disagree. But, what I think we will now pivot too is if we go .500 this year, he can say, rebuilding year, we still were a .500 team despite the youth/new pieces. And enough people will accept that at face value, without looking into the fact that most of the wins will be Quad 3/4 wins as the result of our OOC and probably beating a few of the other bad teams in the A-10.
Of course, right now, if you lose to Marist at home and then 17 to a very mid Charlotte team, tough to see .500. And as you say, no need for Mooney to worry, he just signed his extension, his check cashes whether we win or lose. He could probably run 2 maybe 3 below .500 seasons off in a row before he begins to feel a tiny bit of pressure. He doesn't even know what pressure is at this point. The admin doesn't give it to him, the fan base doesn't, the media doesn't. All he has to do is show up and punch the clock and he is golden.

Hampton carried Rhode Island to OT and then lost by two-points and played Nova to six points. So was Towson. So was host Campbell.Either game was tight.Campbell and Hampton look like identical twins on paper.
