2024 FCS Preseason Top 25 Hero:Top 25(the analyst)

A win next week and I think it's impossible to keep us out of a seed, even despite our soft CAA schedule. An undefeated, outright CAA champion has to get one. A loss, though, and it will be easy to bring up our schedule and make us play Thanksgiving weekend.
The seed and subsequent bye would obviously be huge for getting a few guys healthy. Take care of business vs the Tribe…we control our own destiny which few teams do this late in the season.

There has been so much thought and discussion through the years about how to strengthen the A10 and improve it's position which almost always leads to "if we could just get rid of the dead weight LaSalle, GW, Duquesne, etc etc we would be so much better off". Pretty sobering to see that we are currently the dead weight. Wonder where our ranking would fit in among the Patriot League 😏

George Washington III - Michigan Transfer - Commit

Does he just transfer again and leave UR. I mean - we are 1-3, winless against D1, we play a Double OT game against Bucknell and lose a guard to injury and he still can't see the floor.

Why would a guy - who was a top 100 recruit, went to Michigan for 1 year, and then transferred to UR - stick around much longer? Unless the NIL package he is getting is so good (hard to believe) - then I can't imagine him sticking around past this year.
Why are you sticking around, inquiring minds want to know???

Future Spider basketball GM nominations?

Mooney would not OK any active social media that would in any way raise expectations. Like a new practice facility, Hardt will awaken to this position 4 to 5 years down the road when only Richmond and Merrimack are the last two D1 schools without one.
Agree - we will never lead in anything. We will wait till at least half or more of the A10 hire a GM before we think of doing so. By that time - teams will be on to the next thing, and we will be catching up.

7) Michigan practices weren’t as good as Trap thought

We have a very good football program

Here’s a list of our commits for this class so far. I imagine they would know of our league change by now. In my opinion, this class looks to be just as good, if not better, of a recruiting class that I can recall since following UR. Speaking of which, does anyone know when signing day is for football and if any of these verbal commits signed their NLI?

We have a very good football program

That last part is really the key factor: Will we be able to retain the kind of recruits we get now once we move leagues. I tend to agree with you that we mostly will, based more upon the university that we are and the history of our program. If we can walk into the Patriot and maintain this level of talent and play, win 2 or 3 titles in a row and make some playoff noise, it will negate any perceived drop-down in league affiliation.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Hampton

You didn't watch the game. Our coaches scouted Hampton. They saw a weakness on the left side of the line. The first play from scrimmage was off the left tackle for almost 60 yards. We scored in the first 2 minutes. But we ran the same play probably 15 times, it stopped working. I kept looking for a play action pass based on that play. It never came. Our strategy was to use ZPS to wear them done. We had a run first game plan. It barely worked.

My wife turned to me and asked why we were running the same play into a crowd of people.

It was 14-0, we were on their 20 yardline, and we ran a designed QB draw to the same spot. Coleman fumbled, they gained momentum and they scored.

My wife turned to me and asked why we were using our QB to run the same play.

On the other side, on one of Hampton's scoring plays, they threw to a receiver 3 times in a row. The first 2 didn't work, but the third time was the charm.

My wife turned to me and asked why we didn't see that coming.
Cam actually ran off right side when he fumbled. When they packed the line, we should have throwing quick slants or ran the ball outside

OOC Grade is in!!! No surprise, it's an F

Mooney has definitely lowered the bar. It's crazy to think about, the excuse mongering and woe is me messaging this dude generated over the years. Just wild.

Take for instance the fact that we can't win an OOC road game. Not like we are playing juggernauts, but moon is always whining about how hard it is to win on the road. He again sets the bar low.
Competing is all that matters, no matter the level of the opponent.

Mens 2024 - 2025 Polls/Rankings/Awards

I had the misfortune of attending the vcu game last night. They shot poorly from three, as they often do, and generally speaking they don't have much of a half court game on offense, but they make up for those deficiencies by being incredibly aggressive and active. This is really nothing new, but the difference between that and the way we play is striking.

They do not get complacent when they are up. They keep attacking. They missed a lot of shots, but guess what? They actually try hard to get offensive rebounds! It's an amazing concept. And it allows them to be sloppy but still win against a bad team by 25 points.
Right. Teams that have a sustained aggressive and defensive mindset have a good base to excel. We have to everything right to win. Exception being last season when we have DAWGS like King, Harris, Dji, and Bigs.
This year our wings need to shoot 6 for 8 from 3 to win that position, because otherwise they are mostly just floating around out on the court.

I hope you were able to get lots of rebates on your trip to Costco.
