btw ... Blue Ribbon picks us 8th. SLU is #1. says Mooney received an extension after winning the A10 Coach of the Year award.
only Richmond and SBU have less than 2 starters back.

talks about our good size. "we obviously have 3 small guards, but other than that ..."
the 3 small guards (Hunt, Tyne, White) are expected to play a prominent role.
Mooney says GW3's shooting is "just excellent".
Beagle's ballhandling and passing have "really, really impressed us".
shooting overall is really good ... Apostolos and Dusan are big reasons for that.

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Wofford

Surprise surprise another slow start out of the gate by a RH coached team in front of a snooze fest crowd. Not at all surprising the guy who couldn't win with an NFL QB and 17 returning starters from 3 straight playoff teams 8 years ago, still has no clue how to run an offense or excite a fan base. Best case scenario is the Spiders will essentially will have to go 8-1 to make the playoffs again where we will get smoked on the road by a school that actually emphasizes football and didn't get off to a sluggish start. I'm sure well pat ourselves on the back for that one also.

The fact that a Division 50 women's soccer team (Richmond Ivy) draws better crowds than us at a 80 year old stadium we left tells you all you need to know about how much this schools cares about promoting our football program. Frankly its embarrassing and pathetic to see how little they care. Sure, rally around the team, go ahead and call me negative but this program has major problems that haven't and aren't being addressed to appease a bunch of wine and cheese admins who only care about giving off the illusion they care about winning.
All of this. MBB always has been and always will be my primary rooting interest. I used to be much more into Football, but the entire program now plays like the little engine that could mindset. 15 years ago this program won a Natty, we played and won a College Day, we have a great stadium, yet interest in the program continues to plummet. Maybe someone should ask why.

Walz made a significant jump from year 1 to year 2. Year 1 he was a turnover machine and the game moved too quickly for him to process. Year 2 was an entirely different story to the point his play warranted him staying in the game past his minutes at times. I was impressed by the improvement. He can make that kind of improvement again - better shooting, better decision making (don't try to whip every pass cross court) and more consistency. Will see how it goes. I expect him to be around 20 mpg and Beagle probably a tiny bit more, so yes, maybe some 2 bigs lineups for 3-4 mpg. Soulis has yet to be healthy and needs to work himself in via his opportunities because playing time is tight. I think the OOC should have lots of them.

Silas Barksdale - 2025 Offer

Kneepad, 80's has confirmed loosening of academic standards. I do believe this to be proven out, not that I am aware of any individual player's academic situation - however I have not heard of this issue cropping up recently - which we did hear a few times with specific players earlier in Moon's regime. It does seem in this NIL/Portal era that academics are very rarely ever cited in any school or league - its basically $$$$ now.
The academic standards are a self-inflicted handcuff. The NCAA doesn't make us have these high standards. The A10 doesn't make us have them. We do this to ourselves - and since that is the case, you can't use it as an excuse when you don't get a recruit. I, like many on this board - went to UR many many many years ago. Is it a tough school - sure it is. But can just an okay athletes get by - of course they can, with the right support. Its not rocket science at any college. Go to class. Do the homework. Do the projects. Act interested and ask questions. Get to know your teacher a little bit. And even if you fail the tests - the teacher will likely give you a C. Cause they feel like you are putting in the the effort and time. I am not saying we take "Prop48" type kids, but outside of that - we should be taking any basketball player we can get.

I think big men who aren't skilled ball handlers and passers are usually that way because they've never been given the opportunity/responsibility to handle the ball.
this is Mike's 3rd year in this system. I'm confident he can handle by now.

Grant had more turnovers (82) than assists (69) his first full season. but never again.
TJ had 24 assists to 23 TO's at Niagara, then 55 assists to 52 TOs his first year here. his final year averaged 5.6 apg and almost a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio.
Neal had already developed that part of his game at Lafayette.

The Wofford coach knew he’d win when the score was 5-0 at the end of the 1stQ and his offense had -4 yards. We should’ve scored at least an additional 2TDs at that point were it not for our offensive ineptitude.

I Have been to an immeasurable number of UR games since the age of 10.

The game yesterday was by far the most painful to watch at any venue, home or away which I have ever wittnessd.

The absence of Coleman is a Huseman decision.Plain and simple. His postgame comments bordered on illiteracy. To put Coleman in the game with 6mins remains and down 2TDs is being blatantly oblivious to the obvious. It wasn’t fair to the kid either.
It almost seems like the decision to play him yesterday was made out of spite for Coleman.

The manner in which our offense played was demoralizing for the fan, casual observer, and most probably the players on both sides of the ball.An embarrassment. Its not that we lost but rather why and how we lost.

I have been to an immeasurable number of UR games since the age of 10(for 64 years).

“…We knew we had to obviously have a couple scores, and we thought Cam could come in and give us a spark and kind of sling it around a little bit,” UR coach Russ Huesman said of changing QBs. “We had talked about it maybe just a touch earlier and made the decision to stay with Kyle…”

“…When Wofford went ahead 26-12 with 6:03 left, “we needed to move the ball quickly, and through the air,” said Huesman. Coleman entered...”

For the life of me I don't understand why they don't play at the same time. Go to a two back system that Clawson employed and make Wickersham the fullback. What a weapon he could be. Opposition wouldn't know what was coming at them with two guys that could throw and run. Our coaching staff is just too old school to go old school.
Advocated this preseason. Opens so many options, but totally dependent upon a dominate O line. Time needed for the extra pass option. Not sure we are there yet. Very good, but not dominant O line so far.

Winston surprised me yesterday. O calls were so bland. Seemed uncharacteristic. Almost always throw in some wrinkles, but not yesterday. Total vanilla. Paid the price.

Edit: Game is played on the field. Do not mean to imply coaching was responsible for the loss, but definitely a contributing factor.

What big is going to play at the foul line area and score and dish from there like Quinn did last year and Grant before that and TJ before that...
Because, regardless of the talent anywhere else outside of this position, nothing is going to come easy unless we have a skilled player there.
Walz physically looks great but I dont see him there in anything but a backup role again. I don't think he's able to score 1 on 1 and his passing is inconsistent. I suppose he could take a major leap but I'm skeptical. I think Beagle HAS to be that guy unless we play a smaller body there and that won't bode well for a successful season. I like the overall talent and potential of the players but this is always key imo.

Talk of redshirt Coleman or not. If he saves a year, we still have the issue next year of him possibly playing behind Wick. So he saves a year and might be number 2 QB next year. I think we have to play now and play to win now. Who is best option right now? If yesterday is any indication, it seems obvious unless yesterday against Wofford is an anomaly. Play to win NOW with best QB. We still can get playoff bid, but 0-2 is a bad start with one of those to a preseason basement pick in Socon.
My concern is cam with RS then transfer....cam gives us the best chance to win...wick should be #2
