Secret Scrimmage vs ECU 90-90

I wouldn't reach too much into scrimmages, especially closed door. When it is closed door, it allows coaches to coach differently and try out different things, free from public view. You also have to think as well they are not playing main guys as many minutes as they normally will too - simply out of fear of unnecessary injury.

Now - when its an exhibition, they could do the same thing, but they know when doors open, fans and others watching - they have to try and replicate a game as much as possible. So while they may try a few new things, likely not as much as a closed door scrimmage.

For high school recruiting, yes. For transfers I think it'll continue to benefit us. Like you said in your previous post, instead of the 12th-13th guy transferring because of no playing time, it’ll now be the 12th-15th. I don’t think there will be a big drop in transfer volume, even with Covid eligibility being done after this year.
I would expect transfer volume to increase with these new scholarship limits. Because - if you are a team who decides to fill out your team with 15 players at a scholarship level and not 2-3 scholarship walk-ons, then it is safe to assume players 10-15 on your roster have a very high probability to transfer because they will not see any playing time. Then - depending on your level, expect 1-2 of your top rotation players looking to move up.

And agreed - this benefits the big boy programs. They are the ones who can afford this. They are also the ones who maybe have a shot at stashing a player from a lower conference or a guy they would not normally recruit as their 12-15th roster spot, and if he turns out to be good and they can convince him to stay - they win. If that 12-15th guy turns out to be a good player at a mid-major program, he is likely transferring up to see how high he can go.

What the mid-majors are likely to see - a large influx of guys transferring down. They have to go somewhere right?

2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Bryant

Bryant has a pretty good QB in Jarrett Guest, who has a 63% completion percentage. Bryant is 2-5 on the season, with 3 CAA losses.

They are waiting to see If Jarrett Guest can go this week, but the backup is capable also according to their coach

Spiders only had 52 scholarship players for Delaware game, and they were able to replace their injuries if I understand this correctly up to 63 total.
Makes the win even more special.

I doubt many of the voters in many polls are aware of Delaware getting to play all 75 they have on scholarship this year in conference play as long as they only bring 63 any given week. I suspect they are trying to redshirt as many as they can, so probably moving some of them in and out, week to week.

Spiders have beaten them now, but if they are playing 63 every week, the teams in playoff contention that have them left will surely have injuries of their own and could be shorthanded.

I have concerns about the ones that went out against Delaware being able to go this week.

Edit: Just saw two deep on the other thread and if right it looks about the same, except Spiders get Thaos Figaro back at DE, which is excellent news.

this change is another shot at mid majors, by the way.
2 more good HS players are going to take full rides to every high major program over their mid major offers.

Mikkel Tyne - Player Eval

good writeup. I agree - he's unafraid to find his shot, which makes him a weapon IF he can make shots at a consistent clip. Hopefully as was mentioned in a previous weeks' post by someone, the offense will have slowed down some for him, as mentioned he was calling the first play he thought of last year as opposed to reading the defense and going from there.

Make shots. That's the main thing here, all else is in place for success.

Herder liked our win this weekend...moved us from second team out of the field last week all the way up to the CAA autobid and the #10 seed. Has us hosting Duquesne for a shot at 7-seed South Dakota in his mock bracket.

Long way to go though!

UVA's Tony Bennett is retiring

He gave the job to a guy who went 72-78 at Chatlotte, including 39-51 in CUSA. Who else wanted him? He probably was ready to get fired at Charlotte before going back to UVA last year. And, he talks about how he is not the right guy for the job right now, but he thinks his assistant who coaches and teaches everything Bennett is about somehow is???
I am not saying Sanchez is a suitable coach, but it is clear Bennett thought he was - and thought so strongly about it, he picked Sanchez over the administration. Its clear there is something more than the surface shows on the relationship between Bennett and the AD.
I think of it this way, if Bennett and the AD had a strong relationship - wouldn't it go down like this. Bennett walks into AD office and says he wants to retire, explains the college basketball landscape and how he doesn't fit. AD doesn't fight it, accepts it - but says - listen, the season is 2 weeks away. Can you please, as a personal favor to me, your current players, and this University - just stay on for this year. You can act like a CEO, leave the daily duties to your assistants and this will give me time to search for a replacement. And I would appreciate if you have a voice in that process. We can even announce now, or sometime mid-season that this will be your last season - up to you. This will give you, and the fans and community time to show their appreciation for all you have done. How does that sound coach?

Now maybe the AD did offer that - but even if she did, you know what Bennett said - no thanks, not going to help you out. I am leaving effective immediatley. Thanks. Bye bye. It just makes it seem like something was not right there.

2024–25 schedule

Exactly my thought. We had 80's come on here and tell us about the game. Then radio silence. then finally confirmation. Auburn had the leverage at that point.
Pearl: We're going to have to pull out of our game. Sorry. I'm sure you have other good games lined up.
Mooney: The best game in our OOC is #126 Chalotte. Next best is #190 Belmont.
Pearl: What about your MTE?
Mooney: We're working on that.
Pearl: Good Lord. It's October. OK, we'll play. But we're only giving you gas money. And we can put you up in a Motel 6.
Mooney: Done!

2025 NIT changes

- 16 "exempt" teams are guaranteed the opportunity to host in first round.

- Exempt slots include the top two teams each from ACC and SEC not selected for NCAA, plus the top non-NCAA team from each the top 12 conferences. These slots from each conference will be determined by averaging a bunch of metrics like BPI, KPI, NET, KenPom, Torvik, etc.

- Regular-season champs who don't earn an NCAA bid will receive an auto bid to the NIT, provided their average ranking as above is 125 or better.

- The remainder of the field will be selected at large.

Odd the NCAA/NET just doesn't do their own conference ranking & relying on Kenpom for that. Really not a big deal anyway, they would align closely, but if u r doing indivisual NET rankings it can't be too hard to have conf ranking too.

But most importantly....the Collusion! Will all the schools band together and not decline NIT bids now?

2024–25 schedule

Just saw this from a couple weeks ago...Auburn is only paying us $40k.

If u see the comment from Made for March under tweet he says surprised we are getting paid anything. That makes zero sense to me. But I do understand how we're getting paid less, usually they pay for automatic wins. Or who knows our staff may have been in jeopardy of not getting game on schedule and dropped their pants idk. Auburn knew we were desperate & had no leverage bc our staff had done such a bad job with the schedule. Yes, this is speculation on a message board but reasonable speculation!

But who cares I suggested this is what we should consider doing to get more national games. get a real schedule. drop the buy in cost and find more of these games if we can't get them other ways like neutral or gasp, at home.
